Yesterday we ran errands. I keep “things” pinned to my bulletin board until I can’t stand it anymore. The weather was half ways decent so we went to what the newbies call The Red Bridge Park ( The old farts call it The Foot Bridge Park) in town…newly renovated or massacred….I suppose it just depends on who you are.
The park has old willows flanking the river. One such willow was known as the picture tree…because of its sweeping branch.
Noah and Adam in September of 2011
It was a branch that a youngster could stretch out on. Both of my grandsons are much taller now…but I wanted to show you the magnificent branch.
It has been butchered.
What were they thinking? I realize that Willows grow fast but not fast enough to replace that branch in my lifetime. I am not sure if there is a City Forester or not, but if there is he needs his head examined.
Oh no! I know exactly where that tree is and exactly where the branch was hacked off. I have a photo of my granddaughter sitting where your grandsons are. That was the best branch ever!
ReplyDeleteWell, that's just sad. Can't imagine the purpose of butchering the tree.
ReplyDeleteThat's very sad. Reminds me of the butchers who cut all the branches off our maple trees last year. Yes, they do grow back, but they look so awful in the meantime. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteWhat some folks see as beauty and significance, others see as blight, I guess. So sad that the tree is gone, but good you have the pictures to remember. The kids can't even go back to the spot and say "that's where this picture was taken"!
ReplyDeleteTo cut off a perfectly good and obviously sturdy branch is definitely crazy. I don't understand the decisions some people make.
ReplyDeleteNow that was just senseless! I think you are right- they do need their head examined.
ReplyDeleteThe cut has left an ugly sight. Why that had to be done escapes me.

Morning, oh oh!!!! looks rather ugly now, what a shame. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy. These foresters should go to Japan where gardeners are expected to use their artistic discretion! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd that's not the way to trim a willow unless you want to kill it.
ReplyDeleteSad! We have a butcher that they call a botanist. Why do they do it?
ReplyDeleteI hate that! Argh!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos of the boys - wow! they have grown!
ugh! I've ready other stories about ridiculous decisions made by professional arborists. One company here cut down the wrong trees because they didn't identify them properly. And by no means am I saying that all arborists are bad (just wanted to clarify that in case you have any as your followers)
ReplyDeleteThe foot bridge needed to be replaced because the snowmobiles needed it to cross the lake at that point. Never mind they had a train bridge to use. The train bridge that was built to carry a train was deemed unsafe for a snowmobile. So they built a new steel and concrete bridge that I could drive my car on and of course it had to be handicapped accessible which made the bridge twice as long as the old one. In order to get this new bridge that is three times as wide and twice as long made and the old one removed in one piece they had to make room for heavy equipment. The snowmobiles must cross. What's a tree anyhow?
ReplyDeleteWhy would they do that?!?!?! I just read Far Guy comment...geez. Sometimes............

Lovely photos ! I cant stand it when people do that especially to trees that are still good I guess they dont realize trees are an important thing to us and the environment and yes they do need their heads examined for sure ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteThat is just sad. I don't understand why these things are done. And sometimes they are done unnecessarily. It's like the tree we always called "Dad's tree" which we would pass by each time we drove down the highway. I heard it was removed by mistake and another one was meant to be cut down. Anyway, my dad always remarked on how perfectly shaped the tree was each time he was with me as we drove down the highway. He would be as sad as I am that it's gone now. It was a beautiful tree.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's too bad. That was a cool tree.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a radical change! So sad...
ReplyDeleteOh no! That is so sad. The tree even looks sad. When you see things like this all you can do is ask--why, oh why? :(
ReplyDeleteBlogging is the new poetry. I find it wonderful and amazing in many ways.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of your grandsons.....I once made the mistake of cutting a tree limb much like this one. The tree never looked the same,
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not a good idea!
ReplyDeleteWhy does man think he can improve on what God has created? I've always wondered...and it gets worse every day. The telephone company came out to my farm while I was at work and cut down 4 walnut trees and they were NOT interfering with the lines. Do they even know how long it takes to grow a walnut tree? They said they would replace them...little twigs which would take 50-100 years to get as big....it was that Aplundt tree service who they contract to everywhere. Ive seen them down here. I cried...I really did.
