We finally went for our after supper drive. Chance was thrilled. Daylight Saving time is good for something. We had 51 F or 10 C eh! yesterday.
Yesterday we drove over to Shell Lake, all the back woods dirt roads we usually travel are a muddy mess.
There are patches of water on the ice. All the fish-houses had to be off of the lake on March 10.
There is water going over the dam. That weedy brown patch in the distance is a wild rice bed.
Shell River coming out of the lake. Winter took its toll.
It isn’t often that you see a deer carcass in the river.
Here at home we have an inch of water at the Snow stick.
We did odd jobs outside. Picking up some doggy dew and sticks and raking up excess birdseed off the lawn. Spring stuff!
So glad you could enjoy an after supper drive. We are still trying to adjust to the time change!
ReplyDeleteWow, didn't expect to see that deer carcass in the river, but it is, indeed, part of nature and life.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!

Fascinating - very different from our part of the world - and excellent pictures.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that spring has sprung, even in Minnesota. This is the first time I've seen the snow stick standing in water! :-)
ReplyDeleteEven though the spring stuff outdoors is work, it's good to get out, right? Gosh! Shell Lake is much bigger than Lake Belle Taine, where I swam when we drove up north. Poor deer.
ReplyDeleteLovely golden shot - that first one!
ReplyDeleteMorning, looking like Spring in your neck of the woods Connie. The weather sure has been nice here too, I also have been birdseed cleaning, what a mess. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteLooks really soggy there!
ReplyDeleteSpring is messy but oh-so-welcome!
ReplyDeleteLovely drive. Winter likes to hang on but it wont be long now....
ReplyDeleteThe thaw often creates havoc if the snow has been pretty deep. I'm not sure I would ever even put a house on the ice, and wouldn't leave it there for any length of time, for sure.
ReplyDeleteWinter's grasp is loosening. . .maybe
ReplyDeleteAbout your comment, Yes mother did write in her cook books.
ReplyDeleteThe one I like best is (I have gone to exercise).
I have bought old used books and love finding hand written notes in them.
I remember other years when your snow stick was covered well into April! Global warming??
ReplyDeleteI think my snow stick kept the snow away for the area. To impress people I may put it at the front end of my driveway where it always drifts in. We had a really muddy mess with Barney yesterday as he walked in a load of mud on his feet. It seems to dry out at night and then we thaw more in the day to make more mud on the surface.
ReplyDeleteI've hears of Shell Lake. Any nice resorts and good fishing?. Fact is we're starting to downsize and the camper is on Craig's list. I'll be looking for good fishing and pet friendly northern resorts this summer. Mantrap is a problem for the later...:(
ReplyDeleteShell Lake is not great for fishing.. I will look around and see what I can find that accepts pets.
DeleteBeautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteGood to have some spring stuff for a change.
I really like your first pic. Glad to hear things are warming up in your neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteThe Robins are back here! Spring has arrived!

Our melt down isn't that bad yet but will be soon if the temps keep rising every day to 50F or 10C eh ? and the sun shines everyday as well we might be getting rain on Sat so could be like that then lol ! Lovely photos ! Our Robins are back as are the Starlings and Grackles buds on trees and bushes are swelling ready to pop lots of puddles and grass is showing now so spring has arrived for us here . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteO, I wonder what happened to the deer? I hope you see some spring soon. I'm just beginning to see a few green blades of grass here. It will probably pop out overnight. Buds are showing on the trees. Yay!
ReplyDeleteSloppy spring is here. For now, anyways. So early! I bet Chance was beside himself to go for an after dinner drive! I saw 61 yesterday! That's just crazy for beginning of March. Enjoy it while we can!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty.....I love the midwest....in my mind there's nothing that can compare....thanks for the reminder. My yard looks like yours....water after the snow melted now we are getting rain and lots of it. The sump pump is working overtime but no flooding like some. Time goes by so fast as you get older, I think anyway. It seems like Winter just started and now it's Spring...Christmas was over in a flash and I still need to get my corned beef for St. Patrick's Day! Iv;e never seen a carcass like that in a stream either.
