Dreary Days

The days are dreary but warmer than last week.

Pine Lake

Pine Lake

I had the meeting with the mucky mucks.   It went well, I learned quite a bit.  I now have more of a plan than I had before about goals for the museum..what is possible and what might be attainable IF I can get ALL the Board members to work together as a well oiled team.

I am not so certain I am the right person to take this ball and run with it.. I think I will catch the ball ..and hobble along until I am tired and then look for a replacement.  I am not sure that I want to be at the museum long enough to see a ten year plan through to completion.  I have family things to do..things that take longer than a three or even four day weekend.  I have a wildflower book to write..I have family histories to do…I have places to explore and  photos to take.  The museum will be there when I am dead and gone..I can retire this year..I will be old enough. Will I?  Probably not..

There is much to think about on these grey dreary days. I am working on one of the museums biggest fundraisers right now..perhaps when I get that off in the mail I will feel better. Maybe.  I know a little sunshine would sure help:)

  3. I also need some sunshine. It is very dreary here also with a light snow falling. Been doing that for 3 days now with more to come. I am so ready for Spring. Hang in there, Connie. Sunshine will return one of theses days.

  4. Although you do not think it, you have done much for this museum and community. I have enjoyed seeing the improvements, the new displays and hearing of your in-house resident.

You will know when the time is right to leave. For now, keep up the great work.

  5. Sunshine always helps and don't look at a 10 year plan, break it down into pieces and the rest will come and maybe you will or maybe you won't want to see them all through. Baby steps baby!

  6. The sun is finally shining here this morning.
Life is very short! I hope you are able to retire soon.

  7. Sunshine will definitely help!! Just don't burn the best of your retirement days by putting off the things you really like to do!!!

  8. I hope the sunshine comes soon - and I hope that, whatever you decide, your find enjoyment and satisfaction. Having read your blog over a number of years, I have a feeling that whatever you decide you will be making an impressive contribution.

  10. The winter does drag one down. I try to place no emotional meaning on individual days anymore as I plug through them one at a time. I think spring will bring me back to life. The museum thing is a great thing and you make your mark where you can but when it starts to swallow you up then you have to reevaluate. I have a school system who leans too hard on me and then expects more and pays less. I may have to vanish from the place without notice some of these days.

  11. Just spent the morning working on strategic planning materials for our March board meeting on making the not-so-gentle leap from the old museum world to the new. Lots to think about and plan for, but you don't have to do it all - in fact, having the board PLAN for staff succession is important, so the organization isn't dependent on any one person, but a team who can replace the director when she leaves with someone that can carry on. Yeah, easier said than done, ha!!!!!!! I enjoy your posts, both museum-oriented and personal. Have a good one!

  12. Your question is really, "Am I smart enough?" We get wrapped up in things sometimes and have to make hard choices. I like all your options but in order to do all the others the museum has got to go. The museum is stimulating but eats up your time and energy. I was on the museum board here and I know that it's a fascinating area to be involved in.

  13. I get where your coming from for I get a bit blah when the days are gloomy and find sometimes I am bored out of my tree cause I love to be out doors with camera and when I cant I go nuts , I am not much of a crafts person but slowly becoming one . I to love sunshine and feel so much better when it is out shining it's warmth and beauty . I used to be busy all the time with work and people and now I don't miss the hustle and bustle of a job and having to do things on time or because it is my job . I find I am loving being retired more then I thought I would , the piece and quiet and doing what I want when I want is the best ! Good luck and hope all works out in your favor ! Have a good day !

  16. As I grew older I think I became more and more sensitive to the lack of sunlight in the winter. That is one reason why I love Colorado .... we have 300 days of sunshine!
It sounds like the museum goals are quite a challenge... making it all a bit daunting.

  17. Isn't it nice to have a vision of what we want to accomplish - - and things we don't want to do - - - and know that we need to prioritize if we really want to accomplish it all? You are one busy lady but seem to balance it well with rest and projects. From what I have read in your blogs, if you commit to a task or job, you give it your all - - - never halfway. I admire that.
