What is your favorite Christmas Carol? Far Guy’s favorite is Silent Night. My favorite has always been Little Drummer Boy the pa rum pum pum pum song. ( Great little ear worm isn’t it?) Far Guy knows all the words to his song..I do not know all the words to the pa rum pum pum pum song..but it doesn’t matter I like it anyway.
It is time for you to share what your favorite Christmas Carol is. If you leave a comment for me sharing what your favorite Carol is I will enter you in a drawing for one of my famous extremely collectable hand carved ornaments.
They are done. Most have been mailed off and the rest will go in the mail today. I still have a few to hand deliver..but they are packaged and ready to go.
What are they this year? TREES
Far Guy and I always work together to make the ornaments. This year we made 63 of them.
Far Guy cut out the blocks of basswood. He then marked them and cut guides into the wood with the band saw. We both carved them out. Far Guy added all the branch marks and put in the eye hooks. I painted them and added the snow. We made it a real team effort… we are both glad it is done!
I was seeing pans of trees in my sleep:)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful trees and would love to own one for our tree! I have 2 favorite carols ... OK, I'm greedy :0) I love Gaudete and In Dulci Jubilo. When I hear them I can't help singing along - whether I get the words right is another matter but, as you say, I like them anyway.
ReplyDeleteYour trees are wonderful. And I would treasure one!!! My favorite Christmas Carol is "O Holy Night" I can still hear it sung at the little country church where I was raised. One of the gentleman in the choir would sing it solo, and with so much feeling, and vibrato!! If I listen real hard I can still hear it.

ReplyDeleteI love just about all carols but Silent Night is the one that gives me goose bumps and I always remember being in church with my Grandparents and listening to my Grandpa singing it in his native German. Okay, still gives me goose bumps.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas carol is Oh Holy Night....gives me shivers when I hear it. However, the reality is I love all the carols. I do not love hearing them in stores before Thanksgiving. Our tree (fake) is ready to be dressed. Takes me longer each year. I love to look and remember.
ReplyDeleteMost carols are my favorite! But I have two that I can't live without each season. "Do you see what I see?" is one and Neil Diamond's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" is the best. I will listen to that one over and over and over again.

You have a very talented family. I have always liked "Deck the Halls" because it's catchy and I can sing it for at least 11 seconds before breaking into a hum.

How neat that you do this! Silent Night is most memorable to me. When I hear it I reflect up the fact that the sound of that carol reflected across the no mans land in France as both German and Allied soldiers took a break from the slaughter of WWI...:(
ReplyDeleteI love all Christmas music, but the ones that I sing along with are the ones I learned in Sunday school for the church Christmas programs. Guess I'd have to pick Away in a Manger.

ReplyDeleteI have many favorite carols. Each time I hear a carol, I think, "Oh, yes, that's my favorite!" Then... I hear the next one and think the same thing! The most iconic carol for me is "Silver Bells". The one I like for it's story is "The Friendly Beasts".
My very favorite Christmas song is Hark the Herald Angels Sing and I love Neil Diamond's version.

ReplyDeleteSilver Bells and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear are my favorite carols. I used to know all the words to both, but some verses are a bit vague these days.
I love all the Christmas songs, but I do enjoy "A Cradle in Bethlehem" by Nat King Cole.

ReplyDeleteThe trees are lovely. My favorite Christmas carol is "Joy to the World" but I love singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" because I can sing the first verse in Latin. A friend taught me the Latin words when we were in 3rd grade.

Love your little trees:) I'm not sure that I have a favourite Christmas Carol, a lot depends on how it is performed. As I was reading through the other comments, the words of 'Oh Holy Night' popped into my head, so I'm going to say that one!

ReplyDeleteThese are truly AMAZING! I've always loved playing ) Holy Night on the piano because I'd memorized it and didn't have to read the music when I was a kid. Silver Bells has been floating through my mind a lot lately too for some reason.

Dorthy's answer reminded me of the time I started out Joy to The World with the words Jeremiah was a bullfrog (that song was also called Joy to the World). Farside kicked me cause we were in church.

I do not like" Jingle Bell Rock"!!! But I like all the rest of them. I will pick "Mary did you know?"which might not be a Christmas song so I will cover my bases by saying "Away in the Manger."

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project, and what a lot of work! I hve done plenty of arts/crafts on my day, and even an efficient assembly line can become tedious. These are simply -- festive.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas Song is not a carol though I like many of those, it is Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie and made famous in the U.S. by the Cory Band.
My favorite is Happy Christmas by John Lennon. I don't know why but every time I hear it it makes me smile.

ReplyDeleteI love hearing Silent Night played on the violin at Christmas. My daughter went to school with a girl who could play the violin(she should have been internationally known! She is great!). This brings tears to my eyes every Christmas.
ReplyDeleteWell, I missed the whole dang thing but that's okay. I love the trees though! Do you have a pattern, do you come up with the idea all by yourself or from a magazine? How did you learn, start? I think I might want to do this....it would be the perfect gift for anyone and everyone!!!! They're just beautiful! I have paints but no basswood and I have a Dremel so I think I could do what Far Guy did with the band saw? Was it a non-motorized band saw? I need carving tools.... which ones? I think I'd better go Google a bunch! Not this year but next! I love being self sufficient and making hand carved ornaments would be very good! How did you learn how to do this? Are you self-taught? I'm big into tackling things myself without a class.
