Birds Just Like the Old Movie

Remember that movie “The Birds”  a horror flick from 1963?

Birds congregating on the high line wire

Chance and I ran to the post office in Ponsford and took the gravel road on the way back.  We slowed down to take some photos of the Barn Swallow Gathering.

The gathering

They were everywhere along the road. Swooping and darting over the fields, often stopping to rest in the middle of the road.  I am not sure why they were gathered..maybe they was a yummy insect hatch and they were all waiting for the feast to begin.

I don’t like scary movies and as I recall that movie “The Birds” was awfully scary:(

  1. I remember that horrifying movie all too well. We must be about the same age. :-)

  2. Yes, that was one scary movie. I saw it again a few years ago and it was still scary! Barn swallows aren't as scary a bird to me, though. :-)

  3. It's interesting to see birds congregate like that. Were they making a lot of noise?

  4. I like the short story the movie is based on much better than the movie. ;o)

It is a bit unnerving when I see birds gathering in such large numbers. Several years ago, my town was overrun with thousands of crows - two years in a row. There were so many roosting in the trees that their weight broke branches. It was amazing to see the huge flocks circle right before sunset and select trees for the night, but oh my, did they make a mess on anything beneath the trees.

  6. Every time I drive to the coast on the northern route, I pass some of the buildings used in scenes for that movie...and try to visualize how that deserted, bucolic place could have anything to do with the concept, "scary." I can't see your birds turning that scary, either.

Now, with that guy on the bottom of your second pic, I can see Angry Birds....

  7. Since the heat wave began I have had huge flocks of Grackles and Starlings in my yard - 25 to 30 birds at a time. The movie "The Birds" always came to mind. I was actually afraid to go outside. Now they have all mysteriously disappeared. Very spooky.

  10. It was frightening then, but rather cheesy to watch now. Unless you can pretend you are living in that time and era and suddenly...it's frightening all over again

  11. Yes. There were probably lots of insects flying in that area. Sometimes there is an unbelievably large flock of these critters.

  12. Yes, that was a very frightening movie and made me leery of birds for a long time but I'm over it now and love them and their songs and their antics at the bird bath!
