Watching the Lilac Buds

I have been watching the buds on the lilac bush.

Twenty- three days later on April 29.  Spring is sure slow.  I hope there is a flower under there.

Remember if you want to trim/prune your lilacs  do so shortly after they bloom before they set up their flower buds for next year.  If you wait too long to prune, they will have set up their buds, you will cut them off and have no flowers next year:(

    Good to know. I left my lilac bush at my old place. It took forever to bloom the first time.

    Thanks for the advice. I think my husband made that mistake a couple of years ago. We have lovely lilac bushes here. I can't wait for them to bloom!

    Ours just popped out this past week. I wish they flowers lasted longer than they do, I love lilacs! :-)

    Lilacs are new to me. We didn't have them in the south. We have a huge bush that seems to have been on our property for years. The top half is covered in lovely blossoms - the deer left us the areas they couldn't reach! Nice of them, eh?!!

    Love the new happy picture of Chance. My lilacs (southeastern MI) have bloomed--at least some of them. They are at least 3 weeks ahead of themselves.

    I am waiting, and waiting, and waiting,.....it had better be a good show. After all I just realized that my growing season is shorter, and up here it's colder then in town. Hmmmm waiting, and waiting, but I bet it's going to be spectacular.

    I need to trim out some big old wood in mine. They when pruned will not be around to bloom again. I don't work with the lilacs much as I let them keep spreading down the alley. I do trim back so the cars can see going down the alley.

    Woohoo!!! Spring forth lovely lilacs!!! Mine have come and gone but filled the yard with their wonderful aromas while they lasted.

    I made the mistake of loppin' my off at the wrong time once...you only do it onece! Live and learn!

    ooowwww... Since we moved to the south I ahve so very much missed lilac time. I was fortunate to gorw up with neighbors that had them and then had them myself for years. I looked forwarding to cutting them in the spring to bring indoors. They smell so wonderful after a cold, hard winter. Take a sniff for me.....

    There are great lilac displays all around the Twin Cities, but my one little bush looked sick at the end of last year and has only a few blooms. I'm going to cut it back hard and see what happens.

    I love the scent of lilacs. We have one down my the dumpster, but it doesn't quite cover the dumpster smell--LOL! ;)

    I am hoping that our buds didn't freeze to where they won't bloom. We have lots of things budding and have had two or three pretty good frosts.

    I love lilacs - - used to have a BIG bush but my neighbor was playing around with a "Bobcat" and my hubby let him cut down the bush. He thought I wanted it gone - - - - oh well -- - - we would have lost it this year anyway with the backhoe work that was done with the basement repair.

    Alas my lilacs are coming to the end of this years bloom and I have found little time to spend just taking them in with my senses. If the rain comes this week, as has been predicted, they will soon be nothing but brown jumble on the ground and stems. At least I'm glad my dad lived another year to see them.
