Thursday’s Thoughts

It has been a busy week.  The phone has been ringing off the hook..Far Guy refuses to answer it because it is always for me.  We are nearing a major fundraiser for the museum this weekend.  I have all my “stuff” lined up and ready to go.  Other people are slower with their responsibilities.. and panicky. So somewhere along the line it is my job to hold their hands and calm their fears. What time should they show up..heck ..whatever it takes to get the job done.

I am tired this week.  I got a shingles vaccination ..do you suppose that would make me tired?   We got a Newsletter from our Insurance Company and they recommended it for everyone over 60 and would cover the cost of the vaccination which has a going price of $232 according to a Nurse at the Clinic.  Far Guy got one too.   I know several people who have had the shingles and it is not something I care to get.  Now at least if I get them it will only be half as bad..at least that is what my Dr. said.  If you live to be 80 years old you have a 50% chance of getting the shingles.  My Dad had them…and last summer we had a friend that had shingles in his eye..luckily his eyesight was not affected but it was worrisome.

I did some online shopping.. I ordered a pair of red crocs and found a couple of pairs of Dr Scholl's Penny Loafers for Far Guy..I think they are phasing out his favorite shoe.  He has scoured our entire area looking for his penny loafers.  So I ordered him a black pair and a brown pair when I found them online.

Paige our youngest granddaughter said the other day “Justin Bieber’s spots on his face make a heart.” …and then she almost swooned!  ( Far Guy and I laughed a long time after that remark.) She is saving her birthday money for JB Concert Tickets if he ever goes on tour.

Maddie is saving her birthday money to go shopping at a Hollister Store ( I have not heard of this store until now)..I asked her if they had cool clothes..she said yes..and expensive.  Apparently they have Southern Cali styles and you can shop at “The Dudes” or “The Bettys”..sometimes you can learn much from a Grandkid:)

  2. I got the shingles shot a few years back on my doctor's recommendation. I paid $75 and my insurance covered the rest. I sure don't want it, but getting it half as bad sounds good to me. it's an awful disease. I am going to a fund raiser on Saturday; I am one of the people whose pockets need to be sewn shut. :-)

  3. I've known a few people who have gotten shingles and they were miserable. I had chicken pox twice when I was a child so maybe I will be immune. I haven't gotten the vaccine yet (I am just shy of 65); guess I should look into it. Have a great day.

  4. When I listen to kids I sometimes feel so 'out of it'! It doesn't take long being away from them before that happens, in my opinion. Good luck with the fund raiser. It sounds like you are pretty calm and taking it step-by-step.

  5. Swans make me swoon...really it doesn't take much! :o)

Oh please, oh please don't even mention those nasty stinkin' shingles. I went to get the shot last fall but found our insurance wouldn't pay and of the 380.00 (I so can't understand the difference of all the prices on the same vaccine) until I was a year older. Booger....so I'm holdin' my breath for now.

Grandkiddos are a hoot and a half and sometimes speak a whole other language!!!

God bless ya busy girl and have yourself a splendid day!!! :o)

  6. It's one nasty disease, and contagious to boot as far as I can tell. Glad to hear you got the shot.

Out of the mouths of babes eh? Well I suppose the economy has to revolve somehow, and if JB tickets help...well then what can you say?

  7. I bought some very practical looking shoes, Dockers, the other day, but I really did want penny loafers. JC Penny had them. I need shoes to keep the concrete floors from destroying my body. I have here of Hollisters and I see kids wearing their stuff but have never really seen a store.

    1. I have not heard of a Shingles vaccine. I should know there is a vaccine for everything anymore. I hope it treats you well. I got my first pair of Crocs last summer. Mine are the black flats looking things that only came in black. Maybe they'll have another color this year. For years (probably decades) my sister and I got new leather huaraches every summer, but I haven't seen them in years. I love your granddaughter's JB comments. I think I crushed on Paul McCartney like that.

  9. Oh the shingles are so bad - I haven't had them but I fear them terribly. The people that I've known that had them was sick with them for months. The fellow that had them in the eye - lucky it didn't affect his sight. Good luck with the museum stuff.

  11. My doctor mentioned the shingles vaccine just yesterday. I was going to get it but they were out; she said they have a hard time keeping enough of it around. Guess I'll make an appointment so they'll reserve some for me.

  12. My friends Dad had the shingles and sounds like I wouldn't wish that anyone. You find a pair of shoes you like and you hate to wear anything but that kind of shoe!

  13. Shingles? You really don't want them. I didn't know there was a vaccination against them. I'm one of those people who've had shingles.

  14. Try and relax and enjoy the fundraiser.

We have a Hollister here too - some really nice clothes, but yes, expensive.

That remark about Bieber's spots is priceless!
