Happy New Year!

Time to turn over the calendar.  Begin again..make new “to do” lists..some of which are repeats from last year.   Clean out the cupboards and drawers..organize..those things end up on my list every year. BORING. I had a “to do” list and I was working on it before I was interrupted by Christmas.

I did not make any resolutions this year.

BUT If I were to make some these would be real high on my list:

I should be more patient and kind to stupid irritating people.

I should answer the phone cheerfully as if I really give a crap about the person on the other end of the line. ( My other baby brother says I should practice this one everyday.  Sometimes he even calls twice in a row just to check and see how damn cheerful I sound.)

I should be more willing to drop all of my projects and tend to all so called emergencies that wouldn’t be emergencies if some people had their poop in a pile.

I should be calm and understanding when Far Guy forgets his pills all day long and is in terrible pain…ding..ding..ding..if he feels rotten it might be he FORGOT his pills..not one dose..but several.

I should be tolerant of all kinds of different behaviors..like when the checkout lady at the grocery store stops to blow her nose really loudly and her tiny little Kleenex can’t catch it all so she wipes her hands on her pants..I shouldn’t cringe ..next time before choosing a checkout line I am going to observe the checkout gals..if they look like they are getting a cold..I am not going in their line.  If someone notices me observing from afar..I will just say “I am looking for the least germy one.”

I should not think badly of people because they bathe in perfume or aftershave instead of water.  They have obviously lost their sense of smell, or destroyed it with their spritzes and splashes of toilet water..or perfume de skunk.

I should be cheerful and understanding especially when I  have declared a time out on the couch for a whole hour and I am interrupted half a dozen times during that hour. After all talking with me might just be the highlight of a miserable day.

Yesiree..that would be a partial list if I were a resolution making kind of gal.

Happy New Year! :)

  2. You have me chuckling early this a.m.! I'm the same way about checking out the germy cashiers. I love the way some of the gals have an open bag of chips and munch on them with germy hands in between waiting on customers!

    Enjoy the day!

  5. Well, Happy New Year to you, too! These are all realistic and valuable resolutions. I think you should be proud of yourself for thinking them up!

I have favorite checkout personnel, so I wait in their lines even if they are longer. They ALL have Sanitizer next to them, since they don't want what I have either. :-)

  12. Happy New Year to you .. I don't do resolutions, but if I did ... it would be to be more kind (especially to a dear husband who is so patient).

  13. Great list! I think we are twins separated at birth - our thinking is so much alike it is scary. I can totally relate to each and every thing on your list. Happy New Year dear friend. Hugs to Chance.

  14. Thanks for the laugh with your list:) Great way to start my morning.
One thing I usually try to do is answer the phone in a 'happy' voice. I know too well what it's like to be on the other end of a cranky answer.
    Happy New Year!

  15. Oh Connie you always make us laugh.

BTW, as a Cashier, I would only bring over the customers who had the least germs to my till. After all, I don't want THEM to give ME anything either. LOL.

Got to say, I am thrilled not to have to accept anymore money from strangers who have just sneezed all over me, the counter, and the money, and then handed it to me like nothing was wrong. I am with you on the germy ones!!!

    Have a great new year.

  17. Oh, my you sound so much like a few people I used to work with, bah humbug all year thru, they had worked their entire lives for this tiny company I worked for in central california, endured a lot of crap and were entering the last years of their life, they were caustic but what they said really rang true to me, I was very young and appreciated all the wisdom they gave to me, I asked them for help all the time, not knowing too much of life, what they gave me in wisdom has helped me to wether all kinds of people, places and circumstances, life is a journey and not necessarily the destination and no guarantees or anything given to anyone free gratis, Karma as I see it they said life experience is what you get for whatever you throw out into the universe, if you don't get the message you will relive it over and over again, I prefer to be nice and cheerful and kind, why not, most people do live not quite Quiet Lives of Desperation, only they think others don't know it, I used the be the youngest person wherever I worked now I am the oldest and boy what an eye opener being 63 is workind for my 2nd grade girlfriend and her husband my hubby's age 64...wow whee, I know what those people who I worked for who were rather caustic but absolutely truthful meant with their musings, Happy New Year, I get a big kick out of your blog each day I read it early before I go to work, 60 is the new 50 blah blah blah, it really isn't but one can always hope!~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Oh Connie, this is hilarious. I hope it gave you great satisfaction to write it, because it sure is fun to read! I'm like Laurie, I let the phone ring. Peter, on the other hand, can't NOT answer it. So we're a good match. Happy New Year!

  23. I think I am going to take your advice and look at each check-out person and watch them for a few seconds before deciding which line to get into. (and don't worry about the length of the line).

  24. I love your resolutions, Far Side. ;-)

Happy New Year to you all! :-)

  25. About the organization thing - - - I have to think of how much I will enjoy the end results because the mess between the decision and finished product is not fun to deal with.
Why is it so difficult to get men to understand simple things - - - like taking meds the way they are prescribed, etc.? It doesn't matter whose husband it is - - - they all have similar characteristics.
One thing about the people we deal with - - - especially in public - - - it definitely would be easier if some days we could avoid most of them! I usually look at the checkout lines, too - - - to see which one is the fastest cashier - - - and which one has a bit of maturity, i.e., almost thirty years of age. In our area, if you go to the grocery stores after 7 pm, it seems the only people working are teenagers - - who are flirting with each other. Customers are made to feel like an intrusion on their social lives!
Oh well - - - praying for health and continued safety in 2012 while we deal with just the situations that make us happiest!
