We still have minimal snow..
I took this photo on December 08, 2011…and two days later it still looks the same. Not enough snow to cover the grass.
We did some Christmas Shopping Online and some in town. It is a start. We can always just write checks..
I am still tired and I napped for several hours this afternoon. Far Guy and Chance napped too.
My Mom had her first Physical Therapy session yesterday, my brother and I went along to see what she could do, and how to properly do it. She can get herself up out of the wheelchair one handed and to a standing position at the walker. She can transfer from the wheelchair to another chair. It was painful ..but she did it and her confidence level was greatly increased. Mom was concerned that she would have no Physical Therapy over the weekend..we found out that the Nurses can assist her practicing and getting stronger over the weekend. She is not sleeping well because of the pain. I strongly suggested that her Doctor be consulted.
My brother was cooking vegetable soup to freeze..and my Aunt Anna was cooking chicken soup for supper for the men. My Dad has never cooked..well toast and an occasional egg and oatmeal..that is his entire cooking experience. The next few months his cooking skills may improve. I must get the few cooking skills I have from him:)
Shopping days left 14. Gifts purchased a few whoo hoo! Decorations up 0. Trees up 0.
Oh goodness, you sound like me on the decorations. I did order the grandchildren gifts but that's it on that as well. Hope your mother continues to improve. I am sure she is anxious to get home
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear her spirits are good. She needs to do something about the pain, though, because that can wear you down quicker than anything. You've got so much going on, I'm not surprised that you haven't put up the tree. That can wait. Why do these things always seem to happen during the holiday season?
ReplyDeleteI have not put up my tree either. We have Christmas exchange at my daughter's house this year so I just put out some Christmas nick nacks and such. Fun! But not to hard to put away later. This year has just been different. My mom's passing, my retirement which even though wonderful has been an adjustment. Getting insurance and small pension in place. I have stacks of papers in one room that need to be gone through and filed or tossed. Tossed mostly. That is my goal for this winter because by spring I want to sew, and enjoy many other things without those paper stacks hanging over my head. Will pray your mom gets stronger daily and that your dad can cook a little more. :)
ReplyDeleteJust got caught up on your blogs for the past few days - wow you've had quite the roller coaster run. Glad things are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteHope your next week is just plain boring by comparison.
Napping is good! It sure beats all that stress you've been under the last few days. Good news about your mom. The sooner she is up and moving the better. She is on the road to recovery. Sounds like there is going to be a lot of family pitching in to make meals for your dad and helping out when your mom comes home. That is one of the blessings of having a close knit family. Keeping you in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear the situation is improving. Glad to hear you got a nap in, too. I continue to keep all of you in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteGood for your Mom managing to get up and transfer already. I too hope she can get the pain covered better because that will help her move more each day. You have had quite the traumatic experience with all this and I hope you are able to get some sleep and rest. I am glad that Far Guy is doing well and that he didn't have a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have your plates full... checks might be the way to go. We're gonna do some gift cards cause we just don't know what the niece and nephew really want.
ReplyDeleteMy dad could barely cook when my mom died. He can still barely cook. It is amazing he didn't poison himself before he moved into the retirement community!
Wow, you have had a very stressful week, I hope next week will be calmer. Get well wishes for your husband and your mother. Things have to get better, right?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe your mother is doing so well in that she can already get up. That's wonderful. I agree, she should talk to the doctor about the pain because it's a vicious cycle. The pain can keep her from getting around, yet getting around is what she needs to get over the pain. Maybe she can take something for awhile. In my opinion, you need to forget the decorating this year, you have way too much on your plate. Checks are always nice. You need to take care of yourself. So does Far Guy. Blessings to all of you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your Mom is starting her PT. It's so important.
ReplyDeleteGar's Mom never walked again after her fall.....and it wasn't good.
What's with the pain level, can't they help her out in that area?
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
With a broken pelvis, do they just let it heal? Obviously they don't cast your whole lower abdomen.
ReplyDeleteSo good that your mum is getting around and moving, and I hope they give her something for the pain. She needs to be able to sleep.
You've hit on a common problem with "us old guys." We didn't gain skills in the house. My deficiency is washing clothes. Some how or other I am banned from the washing machine.
ReplyDeleteI keep for getting to tell you I really like your header!

Linda's comment reminds me to tell you that I like your header, too. How about considering that your Christmas decoration for this year? Save the super-tall tree for next year? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your Mother is slowly doing better. ♥
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, all that soup. A great meal in cold weather. :)
Good progress (except for the decorations)...
ReplyDeleteI hope they can do something about her pain. That pain and not being able to sleep is a crummy cycle, I tell you! I'm so glad your mom was concerned about not having physical therapy! That's a good sign--LOL!
ReplyDeleteSounds like there will have to be some food help that way. I know my dad has hardly cooked anything in his entire 91 years, but he can make coffee, toast, nuke a frozen dinner, and grill burgers & steaks--LOL! Decorating would drop way down on my priority list with your mom and FarGuy to tend to. ;)
Prayers and hugs!
We haven't put up a single decoration either! Just too busy or sick...
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your mum is getting some self-confidence back and that Far Guy - and you - is resting!
