Pinch your nose

I can think of several reasons to pinch my nose lately.

A dead skunk in the road on the way to work. Uffda.   After getting to work, an assortment of women who forgot to bathe and doused themselves in perfume entered the museum.   A few men with over powering aftershave were mixed in the bunch too..gave me a headache, and instantly plugged up my nose.   I should get hazardous duty pay.  For awhile yesterday I was thinking of breaking out the Gas Mask that is in one of the display cabinets.

Seriously does perfume eventually destroy your sense of smell?  How can anyone not know that they are as offensive with their perfume and aftershave as a cigar or pipe smoker.  If you use perfume..ask some of your non perfumed friends how you smell.  Do yourself and other people a favor and pour your perfume down the drain.  Go scentless..bathe..use soap..like Ivory..perhaps you will have more friends.

I could have used a pair of these old spectacles.

Pince-nez spectacles

No bows or wires that hook over your ear..these just pinch your nose.  They are called Pince-nez.  These were in an Antique Shop..no I did not buy them.

In eight working days I will be done, I have enough comp time to vacate the museum at least three days early…which may be a good thing.  It froze here again last night and the museum was very cool today..if it stays cold I will have to wear a parka and snow boots to work.  The Board Members will just have to handle the over perfumed and the cool temperatures for a few days:)

  1. I know what you mean. I can't wear perfume. It all gives me a headache. And as for aftershave, my hubby has some that gives me a headache. From 2 or 3 feet away, even.
I have mentioned it, and mentioned not getting the aftershave, and he just gives me a dirty look.
Fortunately he usually only uses it when he goes to work.

  3. I cant stand it when some one reaks of purfume. I get a headache and feel ill if I walk near a perfume counter in a department store. Thankfully I dont go to department stores any more that means I have to go to the city and I avoid going there like the plague ! Papa only uses aftershave if we go out some where special and it is a soft scent. Love the antique specks ! Have a wonderful day !

  4. It is only fair that the board members enjoy the same offensive smells and cold temps that you have!
My mom had asthma and perfume was her worst enemy, so I never wore it, thankfully. My dad's sister would bathe in the loudest perfume she could find and then visit our home - you could smell her perfume on the furniture long after she had gone. She was told numerous times how bad this was for mom and she just looked at us with a dumb look!!!!! Some folks are just thoughtless!

  5. I can relate to what your talking about when people wear too much perfume. Our older "Senior Citizens" have a bad habit of wearing too much perfume and some of it really stinks. I call it "Old Fart Perfume." Men who wear to much after shave is sometimes called "Taking a Marine Shower".

Working in a place that I have to deal with the general public, I have to put up with this. If they come in with so much perfume on that I can smell it a number of feet away, it's bad. I just walk away from them. Understand, I find no reason that using perfume or after shave is bad, but just use it with common sense.

  6. I have often wondered if perfume wearers just get used to the odor and then need more, thinking if they can't smell it, they must need to pour it on. Fortunately I don't hang out with many these days who wear it. Glad you get to hang out a home soon!

  7. I used to work with a women that wore too much perfume. We always knew where she was (or had been) in the building just by the smell. I think it is either that they have sinus problems and just can't smell or they have just gotten used to it. Either way it gives me a headache and I have to avoid these people , which I really don't want to do.

  9. Yes, that qualifies as requiring pay for hazardous conditions. Yuk.

  10. Oh, you make me laugh! A little discreet perfume is OK, but I don't usually use it anymore. The smell of clean is good enough.

Maybe you need to find antique nose plugs! ;)

  12. There are times....such as having to wait in the Doctor's office next to someone who decided to bathe in it. Having eczema, and allergies, this bothers me immensely. I have mentioned it to the office, but they just shrug.

Whats with people, is this the last frontier?

  14. When I was the janitor at the post office, one of the secretaries for the local attorney came in early to get the box mail and her perfume was so heavy that it lingered in the lobby long, long after she had left I couldn't help but wonder what the office smelled like, or the seat belt in her car.

  15. I hear you. I've been scent free for years. I was at a workshop and keep smelling something musty. Made an hotel worker come in and spray for it. A person sitting close to me asked whats up? I told her and she said it must be my perfume. It was making me sick why would and one wear such ugly smell?

  16. When someone smells like they bathed in perfume or after shave and comes around me, I react immediately. Hard to breathe and eyes red and running and I have to quickly move far from the offending scent. I wear no perfumes. My hand lotion is fragrance free. Why some people douse the "stinky stuff" is beyond me.

  17. The dogs scared a skunk up by an open window while we were gone one day.......it still has a lingering stink in the basement:( I'm not much into perfume either.

  18. I ditto Linda M's comment.

  19. With so many people allergic to perfume - I make sure and only use it if I'm going somewhere "open" - no indoor event.

When I was a teenager and traveled to the Middle East - I sat on the airplane in the smoking section. (this was when they allowed smoking on flights). Every Arab on the plan wore heavy aftershave AND was smoking one of those dark heavy scented cigarettes. And then the baby pooped its pants in front of me and the parents didn't change her diaper....I sat with my nose down my shirt the entire flight.

  21. I love perfume applied correctly. I feel that if you can smell your own perfume.... you have on too much. It shouldn't be announcing your arrival.

  22. I like Uffda - - - did not know what it meant so went to the internet. Yes, smells can do bad things to us - - from allergies to stomach upset.
Freezing temps already? Bummer!!! Glad you will not have to be cold at work too many more days.
