The last days of summer

September 11, 2011 was perhaps the last warm sunny Sunday of summer.

One of those days where no matter how much laundry you have to do or how much you would just like to nap all day..you head out on the lake. How can you pass up one last day on the lake?

Cass Lake Sept 11 2011

The water is still reasonably warm, there is hardly a cloud in the sky.  You bask in the sunshine and feel the coolness of the water spray on your face.  This is a day we can only dream about in the winter.

Days spent with all five grand's out on the lake are special..the laughter, the camaraderie..leeches discovered and watched..ohhed and ahhed over.  Some were leery..where has that leech gone..but the call of the water was too strong.

Cousins..competing

Three kids on the tube

Playing a “king of the tube” game..I watched the unique cooperation between these three.. to first get Adam on the tube..then Noah and then..

all off the tube

to push each other off into the water..giggling.

It was a good day on Cass Lake in Northern Minnesota, the last out on the pontoon in the water day of 2011.  It was just perfect.

There were only a few small reminders that summer is coming to an end and fall is breathing down our necks:(

  2. Thanks for getting me to start the antibiotics. I already feel MUCH better. And we are beginning to see the leaves change here. Today will be MUCH cooler than yesterday, when it got into the mid-eighties.

  4. Was an absolutely wonderful day here in Ontario as well.

The Missus and I went for a long walk, some of it through the bush (much to the Missus'chagrin - she can't abide mosquitoes), but I was able to get some great shots of bottle and fringed gentians for an upcoming blog. Then we strolled through a local cemetery and got some shots and ideas for more blog material -- I considered the walk a great success.

  6. We always had to pack up and go back to Iowa for the start of school before fall really hit in Minnesota. I do remember the trees changing color in August. I want to spend fall up there some time just to see what I have missed, maybe on the north shore.

  12. We had only half Sunday as nice and then a cold front moved through and that put a damper on everything.

  14. What a wonderful last day of summer! Love the shots of those cute kids.

Funnily enough, 11 Sept was very warm here too and the anklebiters swam in the sea (18 C).

  15. What a perfect memory day your family has made. In the middle of the cold winter this one will warm you just as much as a fireplace.

What beautiful pics of what looks like a perfect day. You will have to pull those out about January and dream of warmer weather again. It's wonderful you get to be near your family to enjoy special times like these.
