One day at work I was looking for some information for a gal and I opened a huge drawer that is filled with yearbooks from the 1930’s. I grabbed the one from 1933 and asked Far Guy “What year did your parents graduate from high school?” He replied “1932” I said “Okay” and opened up the 1933 yearbook and what page did I open it too? This one..a never before seen photograph of Evelyn when she was a Senior in High School.
Evelyn ( Far Guy’s Mother) is on the left. She always had shorter hair, this is about the longest hair style she ever wore. She is pictured with a classmate.
Here is the entire page in the yearbook. Back then they did not have a professionally printed yearbook, they did their own..there are two copies of the 1933 yearbook in the museum.
The editor must have been in a hurry as her last name is misspelled.
Evelyn was born in December of 1914 so she would have been 18 in the spring of 1933. The next year she went on to Normal Teachers Training.
Just to set the record straight, Far Guy’s Dad did graduate in 1932..so Far Guy was only partially wrong. His parents were born the same year but started school in different years and therefore graduated in different years. His parents met on the school bus. They grew up about six miles from each other. They did not get married until 1940.

Putting together a yearbook at that point in time must have been quite a challenge. The poems are cute!

That yearbook was waiting for you. I love those "meant to be" moments. For someone that reunites people and photos, it's nice you could do that for Far Guy too.

ReplyDeleteMy brothers have a couple of yearbooks that were made in house. I didn't realize what they were until now when you said that. I thought being unbound and bad printing was the fault of a bad company, now I know it was the school memograph machine.
