Well it is so cold here that all the groundhogs went on vacation..yesterday we saw their replacements.
The entire animal world is suffering..yesterday during the day we saw a fat little skunk running north as fast as his little legs would carry him. Yes, I said North, he was going the wrong way. He was also running toward Highway 10. The little bugger probably never made it across. Skunks usually come out during a February thaw to breed..the lone males come out of their dens seeking a little love, but they are usually nocturnal. Did you know they can spray more than 15 feet? I did not get a photo.
The highway crews may have disturbed the skunks hibernation. They are clearing snow from the ditches..to make room for more snow. I wonder if we are half way through this miserable winter?
How cold was it here this morning?
Cold enough for me to wait inside by the door for Chance to finish his morning business..he did not lollygag around either.
Cold enough for both of us to go back to bed for a couple more hours.
Cold enough for me to look at some flower photos!
Barb’s Lupine last June..I enjoy going over there..she lives at the farm where I grew up..and she has weed free flower gardens:)
Thank for the flower show, I needed that.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine being in temps that cold. I would have stayed in too. Chance was smart to get done quickly. Lovely blooms... and longing for spring. Darn groundhog needs to get it right.
ReplyDeleteI have never had weed free garden. Lucky her!
ReplyDeleteYou all stay warm! That is way too cool.
Yikes. That is way too cold. We were a warm -8 degrees when I got up. Riley didn't take too long to get his business done outside either. Your flower pics were a nice bright spot on this otherwise yucky day. We are supposed to have a 40 degree heat wave this weekend. LOL- I might have to dig out some shorts to wear.
ReplyDeleteWe were "only" - 10 again this morning ... any temps that cold make it too cold to breath outside. Can't wait until warmer weather. Hope they are right about this weekend. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteLocal weatherman said -11 this mornin' but we've got a warm~up on the way baby!!! Bring on the flippies...probably not! Heeehehe!!!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up girl!!! Skunk runnin' north! Poor little mixed up critter.
God bless ya and have a wonderful day! :o)
I just don't understand why you didn't get a skunk photo:)! You didn't have to get any closer than 16 feet:)
ReplyDeleteBoy, you've had it cold this winter, or is this normal? I've never experienced anything anywhere near that cold.
Yes we need to long for iris and lupine weather. Other wise we will go insane. Really!!
ReplyDeletebrrrrrr. only 10 below here. and that was enough for me.
ReplyDeleteI would worry that he might have a pee cane hanging on his leg in that frozen air!
ReplyDeleteps. we had a few skunks -- probably about 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteOne sprayed our dog on the patio.
The "spray" was like big globs of gooey snot --
somehow I had pictured it more like aerosol - I suppose that was from "cartoons" as a kid
You have to admit though that the days are getting longer. The skunks "thaw and breed?"
ReplyDeleteThat's cold enough to freeze the horns off a billy goat and waaaayyyy too cold for me.
ReplyDeleteI really can't stand this cold weather. Hope spring will come by soon.
ReplyDeleteIt has been cold here to ranges from - 12 to - 20 below and thats not with the wind chill , here its the wind that makes it worse and colder we get wind chill warnings BRR not nice thats for sure. Miggy does the same runs to do her business as well and comes running back to the door. To cold for man or beast ! Love your photos, the flowers are lovely cant wait for spring all though they say next week we are to be in the plus temps ! My old dog got sprayed by a skunk peeuwww did she smell but I got rid of that smell quick lol Have a great day !
ReplyDeleteGood news! We're sending some mild air your way!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that the skunks woke up this early for sex. The owls are already on nests. Spring is on it's way.
Oh! That iris, now I am really needing spring to hurry up!!
ReplyDeleteI did not know this was the month that skunks breed but that does explain why we are seeing and smelling so much of their road kill the last week or two. They definitely don't make it across the road like the proverbial chicken!
ReplyDeleteMan, that is a lot of white! And a lot of cold. I was sweating today, first in the greenhouse and then outside, pulling weeds, lots of weeds, but I am and will be far far from weed free!
ReplyDeleteBurrr! :( We had sunshine today. The Duchess was so excited she forgot to take pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteStay warm.
Kisses,
Emma Rose
Poor chance going outside in the mornings. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteHow does one have weed free gardens?
Skunks I would prefer not to know about ;) I loved seeing the flowers though. Think spring!
ReplyDeleteIt was 30 degrees warmer today than yesterday at the same time... the heat wave IS coming!
ReplyDeleteI always know when sprin is about here...the skunks come out. We also see many skunks smashed on the highway about that time also.
