I have several ornaments to give away. Far Guy mailed off the ornaments to friends and family last week..we still have a few more to hand deliver.
I “forgot” to make one for Chaucer..Noah noticed..and said “Grandma where is Chaucer's Ornament?” I was only doing ornaments for the dogs..but who can resist a gentle reminder from a young man who has a cat that he dearly loves. He is also very astute..he said “You didn’t really forget did you Grandma?” I had to come clean and replied “No, I didn’t forget..but I will make one for Chaucer and send it soon.” Chaucer will have mail by the end of the week.
Far Guy and I had a good time carving the ornaments this year. Far Guy carved one a day for many days. We gave away 60 to family members and friends.
These are the three that I am giving away. I carved these. They are carved from Cottonwood bark that was collected either in the Hawley area (Thanks Buffalo gal and her best friend) or from the Fisher area (Thanks Jen, Noah and Adam). Cottonwood bark is very thick, and is perfect for carving tiny little churches. These still need some crosses and names wood burned into the bottom..perhaps yours!
Yesterday, I asked a question..you can always go back and answer that question to enter.
I will draw the lucky winners tonight about 10PM..and get them in the mail soon!
Answer today’s question to be entered again: How cold was it at your house this morning? It was –18 degrees F here or –28C. Just another morning in paradise:)
Sure rub it in why doncha by asking how warm we are. Yes, we are too warm to snow, too warm to even think snow. Fourty-eight.
ReplyDeleteSince I never win anything in drawings, when you don't draw my name, could you please think fondly of me and how you would have sent me the one on the far right because it looks like my house. Well when you squint it does, squint at my house that is.
In the Twin Cities area, it was -10 degrees F. Very cold and tons of snow!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get the Tahoe to start so Chris had to come and save me AGAIN! It was cold here, too I should have taken that as a hint and stayed home.
ReplyDeleteIt was 2F here this morning and it is 10:30 am now and up to 12F already. Your wood carvings are precious.
ReplyDeleteHeat wave here compared to other parts of the country. It is 30 degrees F. No snow on the ground and no wind. Of course, it could all change in the blink of an eye.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your carving ability. You are multi-talented. Your family and friends are very lucky to receive such lovely little gifts. Handcrafted from the heart - it doesn't any better than that.
ReplyDeleteNoah really knows how to keep grandma on her toes. I love hearing your stories about the things he says. He would be a joy to be around.
West Michigan had 18 deg with sub zero wind chills...Brrrrr... but not as Brrrr as yours...
ReplyDeleteRight around 19f...so...not as cold as you!!
ReplyDeleteI love those little churches - I have one from the benefit that Far Guy carved - I'll have to post a picture.... I can't wait to see what you two do with the cypress knee! Stay warm!
ReplyDelete21 degrees here! I am very glad that we don't see the other side of 0 down here in the South! Your church carvings are enchanting.
ReplyDeleteIt was 2F this morning according to Intellicast. It wouldn't be so bad, there's lovely sunshine bouncing off the snow, but the wind...ooh, that's some bitter wind blowing off Lake Pepin. The dogs' walk was very short this morning.
ReplyDeleteYou and hubby are very talented folks.
Those are some cute little churches!
ReplyDeleteOur thermometer was reading rather high as the sun was on the back of it, so I took the temperature from the airport that is 15 minutes away and it was 7 degrees C or 44.6 F. Supposed to be a high of 11C or 52F today. We have had a lot of rain though.
We are not exactly that great frozen north that many people picture as Canada:)
It was dead on 0*F here when I got up at six but it's warmed up to a balmy 11*F at noon.
ReplyDeleteThose ornaments are sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteThis morning it was a balmy 1c which is a change from the minus whatever we've been having of late. Very unusual this time of the year as average temps are around 8-10c normally so it's cold ...... for us! It's forecast to get colder again towards the end of the week. So hope it doesn't!
I'm in Brainerd, MN, so we're about the same temps. -18 F. Wind chill- unspeakable. My neice got stuck in the street in St. Paul. Uff-da to this weather!!! Love the ornaments.
ReplyDeleteAs I was getting ready to go into town, KFGO said F-M was 7 degrees; while in my car a mile from home, I checked the outside temp, and it showed -3 degrees. I guess I was pleasantly surprised, since earlier forecasts said it would be -25.
ReplyDeleteHope you are staying warm. I absolutely love your blog; you are a great photographer and writer. Please say hi to Far Guy from me; we both worked full-time for the NDANG.
It was 44 F here in Phoenix this morning; about 75 now at noon-thirty. No ripping winds and plenty of sunshine. The down-side: poor air quality, i.e. - the brown cloud of pollution that we can see. Yuck. Your wood carvings are adorable! I envy the patience and vision you have to have such delightful products! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHere in Ada, MN it was -12 degrees this morning, which was a little warmer than last night when we went to bed, -16 degrees about 10:30 p.m. I would love to add one of your ornaments to our tree!
ReplyDeleteMyrtlesgirl
It was really warm at our house this morning. About 48 degrees. And it wasn't even raining!
ReplyDeleteWe love your ornaments :)
Kisses,
Emma Rose
Those are so cute! I don't know what it was like early in the morning, but it was still 12 below at 10am in Fargo. And it was still two below at 2:30pm. A bit nippy out there. ;)
ReplyDeleteIf you want more bark I can send you some...I have several very old trees on the farm.

Those ornaments are phenomenal! Great job! Our temps here with the windchill was around -12F this morning..we just got over a 3 day blizzard here!!
ReplyDeleteIt was 15 degrees here in the NC mountains this morning with the winds howling the chill factor was zero and below during the high gusts.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed evening.
Marilyn
It was 14 degrees here in Arkansas with high wind but no snow.
ReplyDeleteI think you and Far guy are so talented.
Here in central Louisiana the low this morning was 31 degrees. That would be a big 'brrrr' for those of us along the Gulf of Mexico. I really enjoy your blog, especially the adventures of that sweet 'fur baby' of yours! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
ReplyDelete~Pamela in Louisiana~
What marvellous carvings! It's only - 6 C this morning, but was around -15 C yesterday (and -17C) the previous day.
ReplyDeleteYour temps are low - so wrap up and keep warm!
Wonderful work! I don't know the temperature outside of our house this morning...but I do know that my dogs had to be pushed out the door....there were no birds at the feeder and...the floor of our cabin was cooold!!!
ReplyDeleteJust another morning in paradise in NW PA !
ReplyDeleteI think it was about 18° but oh my the wind chill factor must have been in the Extremely
Low Range......and it just makes ya happy to have an Electric Blanket! AND snuggily sweatshirts to wear! Spring is right around the corner!
Liz in Edinboro PA
It's hovering on 0 degrees C here in Scotland, which means it has warmed up hugely since the beginning of last week, but the forecast isn't good. Your ornaments are lovely - I hope Chaucer appreciates his!
ReplyDeleteOh what a great job you both did in creating these individual pieces. The look great and I bet it is satisfying to share them. Missed the contest and I am running short of ornaments too, darn the luck. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteLove the ornaments!
ReplyDeleteAwww - - missed my chance since I am playing catch up tonight on my blogging buddies. Your photos have been great. My hands hurt thinking about all that carving!
ReplyDeleteOh my heavens, these are amazing. I am so impressed and how neat that you two share this art. Wonderful.
