Yessiree he went and joined the 21st century. He talked to Jen and she went out and got him a cell phone..she had a family plan and well since he is family he now has a cell phone.
I cannot give anyone the number because I cannot remember how she said to find the number..and I did not have a pen or a pencil to write it down..I suppose I could have scratched my arm until it bled and wrote it in blood but I figured that would be a little overkill and kinda messy.
So if I have to call Far Guy I will have to call one of our daughters or grandchildren to pass the message on to him..because they all have his number.
I borrowed it to text Madison the other day..I do know how to text…or I did the other day..maybe it was just beginners luck. It took me twenty minutes the other day to call Trica..finally I got the call accomplished. This contraption is supposed to have a voice operated system..I think maybe Far Guy and I should have it programmed that way…our grandson Noah has his phone programmed that way…so we will wait for him to visit.
I am not sure what Far Guy was thinking when he got a cell phone..but he does remember to take it with him. I do not answer it..heck I don’t even answer the phone at home unless he is gone. I answer when he is gone because he might just be calling to say “I Love you..don’t bother cooking or cleaning or doing that laundry..I will be home soon to tend to all those really boring jobs that you my princess should not be bothered with.”
What do I know how to do with it? I can lock it and unlock it. There are no on or off buttons..no send..or hang up buttons..the numbers are really tiny too..who invented such a tiny phone with itty bitty numbers?
I can hardly wait until one day when he is at home and both of his phones start ringing at once. His new phone does tell him who is calling..is has cute little computer like voice that doesn’t pronounce Trica’s name correctly either. But he can send and receive calls from home inside the house..no more standing out in the middle of the yard or hanging out by the mail box trying to get a signal..progress comes to the boonies:)
Your writing is so much fun to read! My husband was the last hold-out in our family for a cell phone, too. Then when my younger daughter and I got the QWERTY keyboard a couple of years ago, he didn't think it was worth the expense, "cuz I don't text that much" . . . .but this year, he was the first one in line for QWERTY and also touch screen! Yes, our family has gotten very dependent on them.
ReplyDeleteYahoo.... Don't worry about the texting - I haven't accomplished that yet.... I'm very slooooow.... and I know that some people don't respond to the phone but they will to a text message..... Progress?
ReplyDeleteYou and my husband would get along just fine. He hardly ever has it turned on (says the cousin keeps calling him at the most in-opportune times) and as far as texting........he wouldn't have a clue BUT he does talk to his when it doesn't do what he wants.
ReplyDeleteWell I have a cell because I need it for work. But I'm not sure I'm all that fond of someone being able to reach out and touch me whenever!! Sometimes life was easier BC (before computers) and certainly less stressful I think. Oh well, I guess that just officially makes me an old crank!
ReplyDeleteHubby takes his phone to work with him. I still do not have a cell, nor do I have a plan to get one. The land line is good enough for me. Why the heck would I want to get a call while I was standin' in line, at the movies or at a restaurant! Heeehehhee!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a fun day figurin' out that new fangled phone!
You had me laughing here. Great post! Terry has a cell phone and never uses it...I never answer the phone at home either. I've had enough of phones at work to take on the one at home.

That post was funny! I have a 10 year old cell phone. Most of the time I don't know where it is, or the minutes have expired or the battery is dead. I suppose there is the odd emergency when I need to be reached, or I need to reach someone, but most of the time I find it a non-essential item. Not that I get many calls anyway, but I don't want to be available all the time. And people that talk on their phone in a public place, at full volume, drive me crazy. And I can't stand it when they have to answer their phone in the middle of paying the cashier, or talking to someone else, or, well, you know how it goes. I've started not answering the phone at home a lot of the time too. Too many calls trying to sell me something, despite being on a 'do not call' list. I guess that makes me an old fuddy duddy too, but don't dare to try take my computer away!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I think the hubby is a lot better at the phone stuff than I am and I don't text because it would take me until doomsday to get the first sentence typed and sent!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to our children's world--------- you have come along way baby.
ReplyDelete(Funny post)
I detest phones with a passion and this is from someone who had a phone growing from her ear at the age of fourteen.
ReplyDeleteMy cell phone is off, I don't know the number, I let the answering machine pick up at home.
I think I'd rather use drums or smoke signals.
Congrats on the new cellphone - I think...
ReplyDeleteThey make them way too complicated now. Have fun learning all the bells and whistles. We will never figure ours out :)

Yes - congrats! Ours are old ones, and you can have the grands put in everyones phone numbers of their cells, and home phones that probably would be calling and talking to you, and then when it rings or sings, it will tell you on the screen who is calling! A great invention that has progressed beyond me and our old flip phones that are about 7 years old! Let me know what your number is sometime after you've written it down! If you are on the same provider as us - no charges for talking to each other!! whoopee!!
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh at this post....well we don't have cell phones either. And when someone hands me one to make a call on, I just have this perplexed look on my face.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Virginia, you can live without one, really.
Congrats to FarGuy for entering this century.

I had to laugh at this post. Don't worry - soon you and Far Guy will be texting and sending photos and surfing on your cell phones! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe are so connected to our cell phones that we didn't get a landline when we moved up here to the PNW. But I turn it off at night so it won't ring and I find that it still takes messages if somebody calls me. You get pretty hooked on these things pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe are down to one cell phone now because most of the time we are together now that we don't work. You post gave me a chuckle. You sound like us. We don't answer the phone unless one of us is away.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time we have a land line in five years. It was part of the package for internet so we figure, why not use it. I can also call from my computer.
I've had my newest phone for a couple of years and still have problems useing it!!
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious!!! We used to live in an area with really bad signal. I just thought of something though - I forgot, you live in MN don't you? We were there a few weekends ago, just pittling around looking for all the big stuff so we were all over the state. We still have more to see at some point in the future, I'll have to remember to get in touch with you first.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like he has a really nice phone. We have the disposable kind that cost very little. We use them to find each other in Walmart and make emergency calls we forgot to make when at home. Our towers are bad so we can't use ours in the house. Yes, I would like to hear about what happens when both phones ring at the same time. I heard about a toy train show in Traverse City, but I know that is a long ways for you too.
