Sunday my Dad’s side of the family had their annual potluck picnic. It was a great turnout! Lots of good food, I took hot dogs..some really good ones, Ambassador Hot Dogs..the kind my other baby brother likes. Far Guy did them on the grill for me, then he puts them in a warm Crockpot and delivers them just before we eat. It was a very warm day, one of the warmest days of the summer so far.
We drew names for the quilt that the cousins work on during the winter at the picnic…this years quilt was more of a throw or wall hanging, it was all redwork.
The winner was Aunt Grace, she was pleased as punch!
Aubrey found an activity that she enjoyed. Young and old alike had a good time.
The gathering was good. If it were not for this gathering we would only gather for funerals and weddings. We were all a little sad to hear that Aunt Marie was admitted to ICU and then transferred to a larger hospital with more specialists to evaluate her condition. She doesn’t want any extraordinary measures to prolong her life. I support her decision, she may live a while longer..maybe not, I think she has been ready to make the last part of this journey for a really long time:)
So sad for Aunt Marie. Looks like you all had a great time. What a neat idea to make a quilt to give away at the renunion. Love the idea and such a beautiful quilt too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea, making a quilt along with memories and then giving the quilt away, I love that!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a quilt anybody would be happy to win. And I keep meaning to ask you how your eyes are now that time has passed. Was it worth it?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Aunt Marie. Hope she is well taken care of.
The quilt turned out beautiful, and looks like lucky Aunt Grace is so happy to get it! A warm day for a picnic. Sorry to hear about Aunt Marie.
ReplyDeleteA great way to get together and share time with the family. So sorry about Aunt Marie.
ReplyDeleteThe lap throw with the red work is very nice and I know will be treasured. My dad's relatives no longer do this but for many years I enjoyed seeing everyone each August and looking forward to each person's special recipe contribution. Thanks for sharing yours!

ReplyDeleteYour family pictures are fantastic. I miss family reunions - my family is so small and the rest I haven't seen in 40 years. It would be nice to get together like this. I love the quilt - red too- one of my favorite colors.

Beautiful quilt! Looks like a great time. So nice to gather for just fun and community--and not just for formal ceremonies.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Aunt Marie. Sometimes you are just ready to go when nature is going to take you (disease is also part of nature) and it's nobody else's decision. I just hope she doesn't have too much pain. :)
