Yesterday I witnessed a dog that has a worse obsession than Chance. Chance is seriously ball obsessed..at any time you can walk into the yard and encounter half a dozen of his balls..green tennis balls, a blue ball with a bell inside, a used to be larger soft squishy pink ball, a replica of a baseball..but soft and pliable..a basket ball...the list goes on and on. He plays until he gets hot then he plops in his pool. He approaches life with wild abandon..living in the moment...always hoping that someone is going to throw the ball.
Meet Remington, or Remmy for short..a water dog for sure..a swimming water dog.
As he swims he makes low throaty sounds. I think he makes his own music to swim by. He has one thing on his mind and that is to swim. His eyes glaze over and he is in the zone.
He leaps off the dock into the water..going completely under the water..he swallows water..and his next trip onto land promptly pukes and then heads back in for a refill. His family doesn't live on the lake..but his grandparents do..he was a blast to watch. He must be in swimming withdrawal during the winter.
When he was out of the water, he was eyeing it, he whined and whined..I don't think he ever got tired out. Pretty soon he was back in swimming..living in the moment.
Are you at your best today? Living in your moment? We could learn much from dogs that seem to do this so easily:)
He does look like he is in the zone. What a great place for a dog to visit.
ReplyDeleteBootsie is obsessed with two things now. Food, and the new neighbors two cats. He is actually losing weight because he forgets to eat, he is so busy watching for movement next door.

What a pretty dog and cute that he loves to swim so much. Harriet's passion is eating! She has never, ever played with a ball. My niece's border collie loves his stuffed dog toys and balls.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun dog. He is a handsome Springer Spaniel. Remmy and I share the same passion for swimming. Of course I usually keep my mouth shut when diving and I don't puke afterwards. I can just imagine all the fun I could have with him.
ReplyDeleteI am beginning my search for a new dog. I didn't think I would do it again, but life just isn't the same without one. My heart isn't quite ready yet, but sometime before winter I think I can expect to hear the pitter patter of four paws. Any suggestions for breeds? One thing I know is it will be a shelter/rescue dog.
What a super beauitiful post! Sooo Lovely..and adorable! Great shots too!

Rae..I should say Border Collie..but I will say Sheltie..or a Sheltie Mix..they would be perfect for you:)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely mid-sized - - or a large small. That's what we will do when we get another. We want one we can lift if it needs it. Pets do give us a LOT of happiness!
ReplyDeleteI want a dog or a cat, but we just can not make up our minds. We still think about our cat of 18 years. It was so hard when he died.

We sure could learn a lot from the four legged animals around us. Great dog. As my new kitten was crawling all over me this morning, sniffing my breath, nibbling my ears, licking my fingers and then finally settling on the arm of the chair we were sitting in, I couldn't help wish I could be more like him. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteEmmeline is equally obsessed with NOT being in the water....
ReplyDeleteOh I would like to live for the momemt with more things that are my idea and not someone elses. I am not complaining, I just a little stressed. That dog and Chance know what they want in life and they just won't stop. I really like the header photo of all of the family. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI need to practice living in the momemt more!!
ReplyDeleteMy Oscar is just like Remmy... seriously obssessed with water too! If only we could all learn from the joy of dogs.
ReplyDeletewe went to a church picnic today -- and a dog obsessed with a tennis ball was there (a labradoodle name Booger)
ReplyDeleteHe was intense in watching his master and the ball. The"master" finally took the dog to the creek and threw the ball in. It looked very much like your photos.
I miss having a dog. sigh.
I could almost see the dog, even without your pictures, from the great description of his obsession. I love the way you write! And dogs are just the best companions, and cats will sometimes let us own them, but not always!
ReplyDeleteI can just see Remmy splashin' in and makin' his little motor boat sound in the water. He's just a beautiful dog. Thanks for the great pics!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have yourself a great week!!!
When I come back in my next life (joke, joke) I want to be a dog. They really do live for the moment, something I would really like to learn to do.
