Not exactly a car you can drive ..but an Automated Refrigerated Milk Car!! This is a train car from his childhood. He cleaned it up and got it working, then he blew out his transformer and had to order a new one.
The little milk cans are stuffed into a door in the top of the car and then when the special control that comes with the car is activated the train car uncouples, then when another button is pushed the little milk man unloads the milk cans. He is a hard worker too..as he unloads them fast as lightening. I can see where this car was a hit for future Train Engineers back in the 1950's. I don't suppose it will hold the attention of the grands for very long..but it is a good thing for them to see all this "olden day" stuff:)
Oh how neat! Far Guy you are so handy! Fun to see you get your train set all returned to great running order.
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember having a train set like this when I was a kid. Had a whole town set up on a ping pong table and I remember the milk bottles being unloaded. I think it was given away to a cousin who became a serious train collector.
ReplyDeleteThe last real steam engine I saw was in Texas in 1980's. The town people came out and lined the track to say good-by to the old train.

Nalley and I have a couple of friends who collect train sets and have them set up in their basements but I have never seen anything like the milk car with the hardworking unloader! That's cute as can be and how great to share with the grandkids.

I am with you...I didn't have kindergarten and my kids mostly played in theirs...now they have to learn to read...yikes
What a cool car!!! I didn't know they had made things like that. I like the idea of it being unloaded at a push of a button. I have got to get my life together and get my train going. Still don't have any track. Thanks for sharing the neat close ups of it.
ReplyDeleteGrammy, No my grands are all older. My Great nieces and nephews are going to school this fall, yes there is one set of twins, the boys in the photo. My Brother has four children, and eight grands so I have eight great nieces and nephews, five of which live within walking distance! They are so much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, that is just too cool. No refrigerated car pun intended! But man that is just too cool. Having something like that, just one thing like that, would be such a huge impetus to going whole hog and having a huge set up and running the train daily, just so that all the housewives could get their milk, ya know what I mean! That is cool! Oh wait, I already said that. And now I'm seein' so did everybody else.
