News from Home

My other baby brother and she who sees robins first are avid deer hunters!  We encourage them because they share the canned venison with us!!  If you have never tried canned venison...it is the most tender flavorful meat ever!  My Mother used to can venison every year.

Here they are happy as clams in their heated hunting deer stand!  It is one classy deer stand!!

Jody also sent a photo of the pretty sky on November 11, 2025.

It is fun to get photos and news from home!

Yes they harvested a deer!

  1. They do look very happy in their HAPPY place.... in the deer stand. How neat that they share with the family. I have never had canned deer meat, but it does sound delicious and tender.

  4. I used to get a lot of deer meat before I really got into canning. If I got back into it, I would definitely can a lot of it!

  5. I've never had canned venison. When I first worked with a woman who raised beef I learned to can beef. You are right, home canned meats are the most tender ever. Back in the early 90's "beef cut for canning" (which was basically hunks bigger than stew meat) was so much cheaper than even ground beef. I wonder what the price would be these days?

  6. Wow! A heated deer stand. I will have to show this post to Dan. He is in the woods now, but I doubt he gets anything. We have never had canned venison.

Good luck to the mighty hunters.

  8. Hope they both have successful hunts. It's nice that deer hunting is something they do together too. One of my sons-in-law goes deer hunting and elk hunting every year. Now the 3 kids enjoy going deer hunting with him. Mason is finally old enough to be licensed and hunt with him. The other 2 just like to "be there" with dad. My SIL cans some of the meat, but freezes most of it.

  9. He is blessed to have found a woman who likes to hunt with him. They look very happy together! I liked venison as a kid because we generally ate it each fall/winter. Once I became an adult the taste was not as appealing. Plus the Alpha-Gal prohibits it.

  10. With the price of beef, deer hunting makes cents, well dollars! Too bad we can’t grow coffee. It’s gone up so much in price.

I admire your positive attitude. Don’t know how you do it.

  11. I've never heard of a heated deer stand! Classy indeed. :-) I've only had ground venison and it was pretty strongly flavored for me. I admit, it wasn't my favorite. I guess we had some gorgeous skies here too but I slept through it both nights.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. It was too cloudy to see the lights here. I was so bummed!

  14. I have had canned venison, but it was many years ago, in my childhood. My dad was a hunter.
No Northern Lights here. It was cloudy and rainy, of course.

  16. I haven't had canned deer meat either and really no deer meat since I was a child. Didn't care for the strong taste!

  18. You can't beat a heated deer stand. I've seen some that look like mini cabins!

  19. No chance of seeing the Northern Lights here. Too much light pollution and too much cloud.
