Yarn

Jen escorted me to Michaels the other day…as if I didn’t bring enough yarn with me.  She dropped me off at the front door, I grabbed a cart and wheeled myself through the store.  I had not been in a store since June 5th.

I needed grey yarn for fake wasp nests. Jen and Maddie both need the fake nests. I have two done and a third almost done.

The pretty yarn will be my reward after I finish the wasp nests. The grey fake nests will be treated with outdoor decoupage after they are dry they will be hung up and discourage wasps from making a nest in the area and they will move onto another area.  I do not have a pattern, I just make it up as I go…it does not need to be perfect.

It was a very nice day on Saturday, Far Guy woodcarved and I crocheted out on the back patio.  In the afternoon Grandson Noah came to check on the elderly and swam in the pool with Sadie.

I am feeling a bit stronger every day. I still need help in the shower and picking things up off the floor.

  2. I still have the knitted wasp nests up and they seem to be working quite well.

Looks like you had a successful outing to the yarn store.

  5. I like things made from our own patterns we create. I love the orange yarn. I have wasps. But not hornets. My wasp nest look different. Do you think this would deter red wasps. That’s what I have.

    1. Worth a try! Make it the shape of their nest! Their nest looks elongated to me, make up your own pattern!

  6. I don't do stores anymore. I can only stand so long before my back starts hurting so I order everything online. I even have my groceries delivered now as they bring them in the house and I don't have to make multiple trips up and down the stairs (which takes me all day because I have to sit and rest my back). But I am still able to take care of myself. I have one of those shower chairs although I don't sit in it. I just use it to hang onto plus I have bars in the shower too and built in non-slip tub bottom. I sure miss my baths though!
I made one of those wasp nests a few years back when you first mentioned them. I gave it to Amy and she said it works. I should make her some more and some for MOI too!
Oh, I just got one of those "grabbers" to pick stuff off the floor or for grabbing things in a tall cupboard. I got it at Walmart for like $10. I seem to be collecting all the stuff for the elderly!
I love your pretty yarn.....it looks very soft! You guys sound like you are doing a bit better...PTL! Hugs! Prayers continue!

  11. I'm glad you're feeling better day by day. I've made a few of those wasp nests. It's amazing how well they work. The do seem to trick the wasps and yellowjackets for sure.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. Good news to hear your mobility is improving. As for picking things up from the floor, I'd milk that particular task as long as you can. :)

  14. Just want to second what Sam said in the comment...a grabber/reacher is a very handy device! I'm getting better at picking things up and reaching with it too. And I have never heard about crafted wasp nests. I don't get wasps apparently. Good that it discourages wasps tho. I learned something new. Thanks!!!
    Goodnight Gram

  15. You sound happier.
i bought "tools" for after my spine surgeries; a grabber for picking things up, a stool for in the shower, a sock slider, and a long handled shoe horn. They were a great help and I've still used some of them through my various surgeries.

God bless you, Connie. Sounds like you are doing a bit better every day. Good for you! Sending up many prayers for far guy too. Hope his treatments are starting soon. Glad those fake wasp nets help! Take good care, both of you.
