Surgery Yesterday

My long awaited surgery hopefully happened yesterday.  The Neurosurgeon is doing a Lumbar Laminectomy at L4. Basically I have a whole bunch of Arthritis that is pinching off my spinal cord and causing my lower back pain, left buttock pain, left leg pain and numbness.  He will remove all the arthritis.   I hope it all goes off without a hitch.  And if there is a hitch...God is in charge!

Recovery will be slow...the first month I can walk and talk...that is about it.  Then after the first month another two months of restricted activity.  So it goes. To be rid of the horrible pain would be a step in the right direction!

I will recover at home in the woods.  Jen and Andy will be helping out for the first while.  Jen will make sure we are well taken care of.  My baby brother is taking over my lawn mowing duties.

I am not the easiest patient in the entire world...probably not the worst either..however there was that one time when I had been in the hospital a really long time and tried to escape into the sunshine in my wheelchair...some broad at the desk grabbed my chair and turned me around...I gave her "the sign" and told her to go F herself.  Yup...swore at her and everything...right out loud in front of an entire waiting room full of people.

I will be back or Jen will write something for me in the days to follow.

Prayers are appreciated!

  11. You should be in recovery mode today if you had the surgery. Prayers for GREAT recovery results and no "hiccups" or speed bumps on the recovery road. Prayers for the caregivers and also that you are able to 'enjoy' the rest of recovery. I know you will be good because you want to remain as pain-free as possible.

  19. "God is in charge!" was my thought as I was being beaten to break up blood clots a few months ago. I was begging to be "let go," as I knew I would end up with God. That is not a fearful thing. What was awful was the pain being inflicted upon me. I will pray for you, for relief of pain, healing, wise medical help and God's peace - whatever is His command.

  21. Sending thoughts and prayers for the success of your lumbar laminectomy. I do have confidence that it will help you. I had cervical laminectomies at C5, C6, and, C7 a very long time ago and my neck... and I... are still holding up. Thinking of you.
    Goodnight Gram

Oh my, I'm praying that all went well with your surgery and that you will be feeling pain free before too long. I had something like that many years ago and mine went very well. I pray the same for you, Connie. Hope you will feel up to writing before too long. God bless you. Take good care.

  30. Oh goodness, what a day for me not to get on the computer until 10:30 pm! Well, I pray for you two every day anyway and now I'll be more specific with yours. I sure hope that the surgery was successful and that you are a good, patient and "sweet" patient. :-) I'm glad that you have such a wonderful family to help you both.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
