Feeling Better

That Flu shot or the Pneumonia shot or a combination of both of them sure took the stuffins right out of me.  Far Guy and I had the shots on Tuesday afternoon about 2 PM.  By 2 AM I felt like my bad arm was broken and from there the pain spread ( I got the shots in the butt)  I refuse to sacrifice an arm. By 4 AM I was really hurting.  I gave in about 11 AM and went to the couch to try to get warm…I had the chills and ached all over…even my teeth hurt…there wasn’t much that did not hurt.  Far Guy kept bringing me warm corn bags and piled blanket after blanket on me.  I had a fever.  Far Guy hovered.  At one point he told me that I was part of the 1 or 2 % that had a reaction after shots. He took my temperature. He sighed, he paced, he hovered. He asked me if I wanted to go to the Dr…no I just wanted him to call the Crematory Wagon or build a funeral pyre outside so I would finally get warm…he did offer to set the couch on fire. Death would have been a relief. My fever broke many times but came right back…finally about the 30 hour mark I felt like I might live. My temp rose yet again and I fell into an exhausted sleep and woke up totally drenched with my hair looking like it had been washed.

Jen was here overnight and helped her Dad warm corn bags and talked to me. As usual Chance was a good companion.

Far Guy had no reaction to his shots…his arm was a little sore.  Jen had her Flu shot on Monday with no ill effects. I have swelling the size of a couple of softballs on my butt…that are radiating warmth and are quite sore.

Live and learn…guess I will be one of those elderly people that die from the flu as I will never get another flu shot ever.

My wrist/hand/arm is taking its sweet time getting all better.  I am supposed to keep ice on it at night to keep the swelling down so it can heal. I can tell when it swells as my fingers go numb and then they are worthless.

Yikes, that's awful. Poor dear, you've been under siege for weeks with pain. Not too excited to get mine now after what happened to you. I hope you are much better today.

I haven't had a flu shot in years, as I used to get so sick from the shot. So far, no flu problems.

I am so sorry you are having a hard time with health issues. I will keep good thoughts and prayers headed your way since I can't think of anything else I can do to help. I am glad Jen and Far Guy are taking care of you.

I am sorry you are so sick. I had this happen years ago and haven't had a flu shot since. Doctors think I am just being stubborn. I'm not the type to be stubborn if something will help me. The way you feel is awful. Again....so very sorry and thankful you are on the mend.

Glad to hear you are some better - that is terrible. We had our flu shots last week. John did fine - I had swelling and soreness but nothing like the sickness you've experienced. Thanks for your prayers for Ella and I am sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis, also. Prayers for all of you. God bless your weekend.

I am praying you feel better soon. I have heard of a number of people who have had bad reactions to the flu shot. Hope you get better real soon.

My arm was sore for a couple of days, but that was it, and I got the High Test because of my age. If I had a reaction like yours, I'd never get another shot either. So glad you are finally getting better. :-(

Setting the couch on fire made me laugh out loud. Maybe it WAS getting them both at once, maybe it is because you have other parts trying to heal. I have heard statistics that the flu shots only work for 50 percent of the time because of the flu strain and there is also the ones who wouldn't have gotten the flu without a flu shot.
Ice that hand at night, you want to heal. Try not to work against your best interest even if you go stir crazy.

I don't take flu shots... so sorry to hear you were affected badly.

I don't get the shots, either. And I didn't get as sick as you did. So glad you are better and you have family around you to light the couch on fire if need be. ;)

I'm with Gemma. Nice Guy's offer to set the couch on fire made me sputter laughter. But on the serious side...gosh girl, get well! You've had enough pain already. We've had a studnet out a week from her flu shot reaction. Sending good thoughts your way.

Oh my! By comparison I got off easy with same two shots. Bad shoulder pain and couldn't lift my right arm for about 24 hours

I've heard enough horror stories about the darn flu shots that make me even more sure I'll never get one. My daughter works in a hospital and has to get one or be obligated to wear a mask at all times while at work ( she's in release of information). She's never had much reaction at all. I guess one doesn't know until after the shot.

Join the club Far Side, I quit getting flu shots a few years back, after my little grandson got one and got deathly ill with a disease that stays with you for most of your life. Awful.

You feel very bad Bowen you wish you were dead. Hate to say it but you should have gone to emerg.

I had never had a reaction to a flu shot until the year i turned 65. I was told they up the dose at 65. Four hours later I had fever, chills, it hurt to breathe. I was better the next day, but not well. It was terrible. Diane

So sorry you had such a bad reaction! Hope you get better fast.

Wow! that was some serious reaction! I've never heard of anyone reacting this way.
Still having pain and swelling in the wrist/hand is not good either.

Oh, no! After all you've already been through. Who would have guessed that would be your reaction. Hard to tell. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. But it totally makes sense that you'd shy away from doing that again. I'm with you on that flu shot decision. That kind of reaction can happen.

Oh my gosh...that was awful! I hate being ill but I'm sure that's true of everyone. I don't blame you for not getting the shot anymore if it 'gives' you the flu!

Gosh, that's rough. I have never had a bad reaction to the flu shot, but I've not taken the other yet.
