Rude Awakening

I was sound asleep at 6AM.  Some people may be up by then but I am so not a morning person.

I heard  some sounds…something was hitting the window in the kitchen. It was a rhythmic noise kinda like a pop pop…pop pop.   I grabbed the camera.

Just another Wild Turkey in love with his reflection or else looking for bugs on the window….who really knows for sure.

This particular Wild Turkey had awakened me from a nap one day last week.  He is wandering around in our woods, I think he is a young male turkey.

He did not like me taking his photograph.  So he sauntered off.

Such is life in the woods.

  2. If you are not a morning person that would be quite a face to greet you at 6 a.m. I think he was telling you to get up and fill the bird feeders.

  3. That's a big turkey! It would be funny except I know you didn't like getting up so early!

  4. I think he was looking for "luv", haha. That is one big bird. And you just let Thanksgiving dinner walk away. He'd be in my freezer by now.

  6. You do live in the wild. I remember years ago when they reintroduced wild turkeys in Iowa. My Uncle and Aunt's place in the deep woods around Chariton, Iowa was one of the first places. They really are all over the state now.

  13. That's a rather large bird. I don't think you want to tangle with him.

  15. Being awakened by a tapping turkey is an experience I have never had the pleasure to encounter.

  16. Well, isn't that something to see outside your kitchen window! And here I was thinking you were going to say the tapping was on account of a hailstorm or something...

  17. A friend of mine had the same problem and he would not leave his reflection alone so they had to fence off that area for awhile. They figured he saw his reflection and thought it was another male trying to usurp his territory...he got pretty aggressive with their window!
I almost hit one yesterday crossing the highway on my way to Mountain Home. There are lots of them everywhere....MN, IL,IA and AR.....they love the woods!

  18. Sorry you lost your beauty sleep, but did enjoy the story and photos. Our last home was out in the woods and so I know what a treat it can be...unless the wild ones are eating your flowers and such!

  19. We might get woken up by a woodpecker trying to drill a hole in our metal gate, but never a turkey at the kitchen window! That would be because there are no wild turkeys in our area, and our kitchen window is about 8 feet above ground ;-) That turkey looks huge!
