Little flower garden

We have a little flower/solar light garden out in front of the house.

It is a little rough looking in the spring, there are bird feeders there and lots of sunflower hulls to clean up.

Garden out front May 30

Spring weeds and one Wild Violet.

I wanted certain flowers…Salvia coccinea ‘Lady in Red’, Dahlberg Daisys and Gold Marigolds. A red and yellow garden.

The Hummingbirds love the Salvia Lady in Red.  The lady that usually grows it grew a different Salvia this year…a pink one….there went my red and gold plan out the window.

I know it is hard to see the flowers amongst the old lady “stuff”.

This is the Salvia on the left.  Not really showy.  The Marigold I got was Lemon instead of Gold.

I love the little Dahlberg Daisy.  One greenhouse had two plants in a four pack left. It has been my experience that they re seed…I hope so!  I use to have them growing under the benches in the greenhouse.

The last place we went had a row of Pansy’s of all colors outside…I saw my husband wander that way.  He resisted buying anything.

I wondered how he could resist these?  So I grabbed them…he said “I almost bought those.”  I figured as much…they are his color.

Then he said how about some Moss Roses…so we bought some of those too.  One is Orange…the others have not revealed their flower colors yet.

So this year we have Lemon something marigold, Salvia coccinea ‘Summer Jewel Pink’, Salvia splendens some kind of red,  Blue Pansies, Dahlbery Daisy, Moss Roses and Gazanias unknown colors.

The squirrels have dug up or trampled two plants already…I may have to look for a few more plants to fill in some spots….any color will do this year.

The garden looks really nice. i love all the flowers you put in. I did 3 patio pots this yea. One has gold marigolds and the other two have what I call "firecrackers" (red) in them. Starting to get really hot here. Have a great weekend.

A lovely little garden. I like to see the hummers in the summertime so plant flowers they like. Salvia is one of my favorites, too. :-)

Such a nice combo of flowers. Good color. And flower shopping is a fun outing!
p.s. Thanks to your post about the Lifetime Senior Pass to National Parks, my goal is to get one today!!

Moss roses are a favorite of mine - they require very little care and look fabulous in pots or on the ground.

Pretty little garden. It's the "old lady stuff" that makes it interesting. ;)

We had a color "plan" too but then the little neighbor girl gave us her favorite color flowers for mother's day - you know what, I love all the diff. colors!

Me, I am just glad it is warming up so the flowers will bloom.
Next I will complain it's to hot.

My color scheme for my front porch planter is pink and white. Pink and white striped petunias and two-toned pink geraniums. Two weeks after I planted them, one of the geraniums bloomed red! Ruined everything. So back I go to the nursery where, of course, they no longer have the same pink geraniums. Had to get a different pink. It's going to bug me all summer now.

Okay, your last comment explains things. I was beginning to worry about the colors.

I like the lemon marigolds, not quite as brash as the gold ones. Those daisies have never seeded themselves for me, hope you have better luck. We have had a good Spring for pansies, mine have and still are doing really well. At the rate I'm going, maybe they will last the whole summer, because I'm not getting much else planted.

Every year I make my list and go to the nursery only to find they haven't got any of the colours I want. It all ends up looking okay but not what I'd planned.
Those darn marauding squirrels again!!!

Kinda hard to keep the squirrels away with all those sunflower seeds from the bird feeder. I guess what will be will be. In the meantime you are having fun with your little flower garden.

I have to put my solar butterflies out that I got after you showed yours! The best laid plans...I had to stop yesterday as there is a strawberry plant in my way and I'm trying to figure out where to put my strawberries. I am hurtin' for certain today....hauling landscape stones and weeding exposed my old age and aggravated my RA....drat! Oh well, I have plenty of chores inside today. Those darn squirrels! No wonder you don't like them. It's going to be so pretty when it fills in.
