Gifts from Kansas

It was really cold on Thursday morning…like –25 F or –31C eh!   The mailman delivered a package to our door along with the mail that included seven Christmas Cards!

I opened the package first!

Shiny Brites and a book

A box of Retro Shiny Brites and a book The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas.  “A colorful exploration of Depression-era Kansas and the meaning of friendship.”  I was hooked after the first few pages!   Thank you Kay you are ever so thoughtful!

Shiny Brites from Kay

I took the ornaments upstairs, found some hangers and hung them on the in progress Shiny Brite tree!  These will be known as my Kay ornaments!

The tree upstairs will be done soon, I work on it for a few hours and then do something else.  So many people have given me ornaments it is like a trip down memory lane while I am decorating.

Beautiful shiny brights- I wish I could find the ones we had when I was a child- I'll have to ask my mom what she did with all the old ornaments. I know she didn't throw them out because she tends to hang onto things like I do. Have a super and hopefully warmer day!

What a lovely gift and the Sandra Dallas books are excellent....she has a bunch. I've only read the Persian Pickle Club and thanks for the reminder to read her others!

What a great gift. Isn't blogging wonderful? As I remember Kay is one of the winners of your carved Christmas ornaments. She's pretty special. Like you. :-)

Wow, what a great package and book too. The retro ornaments are beautiful. More shiny brites to appreciate. That whole box looks like frosting on a cake with all the shine and color. We plan on leaving our trees up a whole lot longer this year as we are so slow getting things put up for display.

What a wonderful gift, nice surprise on a cold day. I can't even imagine temperatures that cold, it will be in the 70's here this weekend.

I read your blog daily, but I don't think I have ever commented!! The Sandra Dallas book caught my eye. If you read and love this one,,,,, be SURE to read her "Prayers for Sale". Her books are great for the winter ahead. I don't think there was one that I didn't enjoy!! We are expecting 10-12 inches of snow this weekend and the newest Fannie Flagg book just came in for me at the library. She is another author you may enjoy. I read her "Can't Wait to get to Heaven" every year!! So, with that book being picked up by my husband, who is out doing errands before Snowmageddon arrives, I am set for yet another weekend of that icky stuff that keeps falling from the sky!! ugh.

The Christmas balls are so much prettier than any I've been able to buy. Good for you for collecting such items of beauty!

They are so pretty and so reminiscent of the Christmas trees of my childhood. And the book looks like such a good one, too. Blog friends are pretty wonderful, aren't they!

Okay...after you are done reading that book, you need to give a book review (but no spoilers!)...it sounds like an interesting read...fun, too, and probably full of some good points.
