Thursday’s Tidbits

Look ma no cavities!  Our Dentist visit was a success…cross something off the list. Nice to have that visit behind us before the snow flies.  Far Guy visited the bakery for some flat bread and a date filled cookie for Chance, most times Chance rides along but it was too warm. Chance knows the way to the bakery and which case his cookie is in.  You should see his nose go into overdrive as soon as we go inside.

Deer in the swamp

We saw this deer down in a swamp along the way.

Deer close up

Pretty little tick hauler.

For now the ticks have slowed way down, it gets too hot for them, they will resurface when it gets cooler.

I found several Sunflower Fields…I am always on the lookout for them, they have just begun to bloom.

We are wood carving every afternoon.  We had so many wood chips on the patio it looked like a beaver lived here.  Far Guy got out the leaf blower and blew them away.

It is still warmish and humid here…highs in the high 80’s but it is supposed to cool off to the 70’s starting today!

I cleaned off my desk so I could give it a good dusting and piece by piece part by part I put stuff away where it really goes.  Far Guy said it was strange to see the top of the desk.  Of course it was all my stuff…our stuff doesn’t count…his stuff is always put away properly!

The skeeters are still bad, but we had a dragonfly hatch that has helped a tiny bit. When I was little I didn’t know what they were called so I just called them helicopters.

The one bat we have should be a fat little thing. Far Guy sees him/her flying through the yard just at dusk. I haven’t seen the bat yet but I used to love watching them fly out at night when we lived at the resort.

Good Morning, I love the sunflower field. We've been seeing a lot of deer here, too. It would be fun to see your bat flying around! Helicopter is a pretty good description of a dragonfly. I look forward to cooler temps. We are still in the 90's each afternoon. Glad the dental checkups went well and congrats on the wood carving each afternoon. You are an inspiration cleaning off your desk. Enjoy your day. Hi to Chance; so cute that he has a favorite cookie!

Bob is jealous -- her cookies come out of a box marked Milkbones not a bakery! The big sunflower fields are gorgeous, and hurray for the helicopter bugs and their appetite for mosquitoes!

Love the sunflower field. Those flowers look so pretty waving in the air. Far Guy should build a few bat houses. The more bats the fewer mosquitos. Hi Chance, glad you got your cookie.

Is it sunflower time already? I remember previous years when you've given me such pleasure with those fields. :-)

That sunflower field blew me away! I used to grow sunflowers in the huge garden I had once, but didn't know at the time, that somewhere in the world, sunflowers grew by the thousands in fields! I like your commentary on the insect life around you. I value dragonflies, but you can keep the ticks and mosquitoes!

It is sunflower time, isn't it? Fun to see your photo of the huge field! I saw one huge sunflower in the neighborhood yesterday. It was already heavy with seeds. Chance has good taste in cookies. I would take the prune-filled cookie, too. My grandmother used to make them. Dumping rain on us here as I type, but I'm grateful for the drop in temperature!

So glad that Chance gets a cookie when you all visit the bakery. He is so smart to know just where those particular cookies are located in the bakery.
I never thought about sunflowers being in a field full of them and that is quite the cheerful sight.

Glad your dental checkups were good. That is always wonderful!

Don't talk about snow flying. That's a long time yet. You will have many sunny days before snow. Sept. and Oct. are beautiful months.

We had a thunderstorm last night and are still in the 80s over here with 78% humidity! Awk! Enjoy your cooler weather over there--LOL! Love the sunflower field. Go dragonflies!! And bat! :)

We have the heat and horrible humidity. I will mow the yard maybe tomorrow morning instead of blogging. I loved driving through Minnesota with sunflower fields on both sides. Our way home from Grand Rapids had one place that we always saw them My youngest son and wife just spent a week with my late wife's family at my old cabin on Pokegama. The boats and pull from behind toys from the boats have gotten to be luxurious. My dil made a wonderful video of all the fun they had on the water at the lake. Barney eats all cookies quickly and Button used to like the vanilla oreo cookies. He got the non frosting side.

How lovely it must be to see deer and sunflower fields when going to the dentist. All I see here anymore are new subdivisions and condos/apartment buildings. It's horrible. And the weather is worse! Of course, I'd never survive one of your winters so, I'd best stick it out down here. :)

When we had the pool in the yard we had plenty of bat at dusk. I don't see them now! There is a huge sunflower field up north of us. I need to take a drive to see if they are blooming. I am going to decorate my mantel for August with sunflowers.

My DH is wanting date-filled cookies now. He loves them and I haven't made them for ages. Chance is one lucky dog.

So Chance has a favorite cookie? I love it!
We need bats and dragonflies. We have a few, but I got two more mosquito bites this evening. they love me.

Loved your sunflower field pic. There are acres and acres of them on my daughter & SIL's farms, along with almonds, rice, vine seeds, tomatoes, and alfalfa.
Watching the bats fly in the evening is fun. They are very fast. Not to many bugs here, to hot and dry. It has been 110 all last week and a degree or two cooler this week. I try not to look at the temp gauge.
