Slippers

Not the kind you put on your feet.  The flower kind.

The Lesser Yellow Lady’s Slippers are coming to an end.  I have seen more of these than any other year in our area of Minnesota.  The conditions and spring weather must have been just perfect.

Nine Lesser Yellow Slippers

Nine was the most I found in a clump.   The Lesser Yellows are about 1/3 the size of the regular yellows…which are not blooming yet.

The Minnesota State Flower is just beginning to bloom.  We saw them over at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday evening.

First of he Showy Lady Slippers at Tamarac

The Showy Lady’s Slipper or Cypripedium reginae.

I am certain that you will see more of these on this blog before their bloom season is over.

Many plants are just heavy in bud.

To me, the lady slipper is the flower that belongs to you alone. I love the pretty thing but didn't know anything about it before I "met" you. I look forward to more pictures. :-)

I echo DJan's comment. Not something we see around here.

Saturday I will look for lady slippers. I know they're coming to an end here and that they were early.

Your wild flowers are so different from those I see. Could it be the difference in temperature and rainfall?!!!!

The Star and Tribune reported vandalism of the Showy's at the Minnesota Arboretum over the weekend.... Grrrr.

I knew those slippers would be that kind, if they were on your blog! Looking forward to seeing many more candid shots of those lady's slippers. Glad the weather has been favorable.

I think I like those lesser ones the best but I still love my carved showy one the most of all!
