May Baskets!

I am still in the design phase of this years May Basket.  It involves a small sherbert container, paint, paper, chennile stems and of course candy.  The candy part is easy!

Today I will work on them some more and see if my idea will work. The R and D phase can be complicated, I know what I want them to look like… getting them there is sometimes a complicated process.

May Day is on Sunday!  I think I am making 13 baskets.  I hope you will join me in giving one small homemade basket filled with candy or some other sweet treat or perhaps even some flowers to a friend or neighbor!

Ready Get Set Go…make a basket.

I had forgotten that you do this every year. It's a custom I don't recall seeing in these parts, and what a shame. Such a lovely way to mark the beginning of spring.

I want to know more about giving May baskets filled with something sweet. I've never heard about this before. Well, except about yours last year. Hope the doctor gets your blood pressure medicine straightened out

I've done it a couple of years at your urging. I don't think anybody ever knew where they came from. I'll do it again this year! :-)

I can remember having so much fun with May baskets during my childhood. I don't see it being done so much anymore!

We made them in grade school but they didn't contain sweets. We made paper flowers, and then for our moms we added slips of paper with chores on them so she could draw one a day for us to do. She pointed out that I included chores I was supposed to do every day anyway!

Oh I used to love May baskets! Growing up in S. Dakota we'd deliver them to our friends and neighbors. Sadly, they don't seem to do this sort of thing here on the west coast. Thanks for the memories!

Haven't done a May basket since I was a little kid. What a wonderful and neighborly idea.

By the way, your Border Collie is beautiful. ;-)

You are fancy. We always made a cone with construction paper and a handle out of paper stapled on. As you say, it's the candy that is important!

I might just make a few if I can think of who might enjoy getting them. I know I would but out my way no one seems to know about May Day baskets at all.
I might have to print out a little info and include it in the basket.

This is a tradition that is fading away for most of us. I'm glad it is alive and well with you.
