Trees and Windows 10

Two Trees are up.  One has lights, one never gets lights just Shiny Brites.  The downstairs tree has lights and some of my favorite ornaments are on my desk ready to hang.  I have everything I need to decorate that tree lugged downstairs.

We had a work stoppage for everything on Sunday when Far Guy’s computer got the blue screen of death and died.  Luckily he used drop box for some of his important files.  He also backed up most of his photos.   His computer was new back in November of 2011….so it made it four years. I think that is pretty good considering it is in use almost constantly.

Windows 10 is quite an adventure.  He is reading, watching his old videos and rarely cussing so it must be doable for him.  I love Windows 7 and hope I croak before my computer does.

I have two Simple Saves that backup my photos. After the first of the year I have a big project planned to purge some of those old files, getting rid of duplicates and cleaning up everything.  I plan to re save all of the photos of the grands to a flash drive.  I have them on many Cd’s now, but by month and year only.  Wait a minute I am getting way ahead of myself...onward to the Christmas trees!

I have something called Time Machine on my Mac that backs up everything to an external drive. I've only had to use it once or twice to capture a photo I lost somehow. But it sure makes me feel better to know I won't be losing any stuff if my computer croaks! I've heard good things about Windows 10. :-)

I have a Mac computer with Time Machine external backup. My computer is old and running on outdated software so I have been experiencing malware problems. Luckily, Apple has been very nice in helping me out, but I think it's time to invest in a new computer. Although I'm not ready to learn a new system (my brain is aging I'm afraid and I don't like change). Love the picture of your Christmas decorations.

I have Windows 10 and like it just fine - had 7 before. My only complaint is that the zoom feature changes the size of the text but I now how to get it back to where I want it so it is not a major problem for me. Zoom is good for people who want to make the print size bigger so they can read it more easily. I think you won't have trouble learning Windows 10. If I can do it anyone can.

It's always a good idea to schedule time for backing up files. Losing photos would be devastating.

Pretty ornaments! Yeah our computer is really old....probably pre-2009. Although I back everything up on external hard drives I really hope my computer doesn't die. I don't want to learn a new operating system!

I am worried for my desktop...it is only three years old, but I don't have everything backed up like I should. I imagine your trees will be beautiful when you are finished decorating.

The blue lights on your tree look so pretty. I wished you hadn't mentioned backing up photos and stuff. I'm so far behind at that and it makes me go cold to think of losing them. After Christmas .... I hope nothing cataclysmic happens to my iPad before then!

You got sidetracked from the tree by the computer, If my computer died I'd get pretty excited too.

I'm with you.... I'll stick to Windows 7 as long as I can. Too bad Far Guy's computer died but now he gets to choose a new one! Luckily he didn't lose everything though.

Blue screen of death? Bummer of a Christmas present ;)

Glad it is transitioning smoothly for Far Guy, though. You know it could just as easily have gone differently. Maybe that's the real Christmas present...

Looking forward to seeing that Shiny Brite tree!
We have Carbonite for computer back up. but I really need to go through my huge photo storage and clean it up. I started once, but got bogged down. that is a good idea for January.

Far Guy might want to use a "start menu" add-on if he finds the Windows 10 interface to be cumbersome. I just downloaded the program from

http://www.classicshell.net/

And installed it with the default settings. I really like it.

Our ornaments for the big tree sat in the living room for three days. We would do a few when we had a moment of time but finally on the last day put up half of the last box and while I was at school my wife finished the box. All of the boxes are all down stairs now and I think we are done. Except for the village, ugh.

I haven't done a lick of decorating yet...and I might not either as it's just the two of us. I need to do something with my photo's too but I'm not sure what to do....flashdrives or external hard drives...it's just trying to organize them. I purged a whole bunch but I'm still three years behind :(

Ha! Ha! You are such a planner...already looking "down the road"...I'm the same way that's why I had to laugh. I have no Christmas spirit this year but I am busy working on some "creative financing" as I am determined to move North! I think I was given a Christmas miracle so that's spirit enough for me! Love your tree with the blue lights and all your ornaments sitting there waiting to jump on that tree!
