Wistful Wednesday : Tourist Friends

Owning a fishing resort for many years we have many out of state friends.  My parents purchased their resort in 1975, we purchased ours just down the lake in 1986.

These photos feature a few of our tourist friends.

1995 Supper with friends On the left side: Mark, Kay, Elsie, Koons, Gene (just barely can see his head) and Far Guy’s  Mom Evelyn.  Right side: Joanne, Me ( you can see my hands) Jennifer, my Mother and Dad.

Jennifer most likely has her head on the table because Ardith said “Jennifer I cannot see you!” Ardith was the picture taker…always had a camera in her purse.  At the end of the table I think I see Bonnie and her husband and Chuck and Ardith must have been sitting at that end of the table….I am certain they were there.

1995 Supper with friends two

On this photo you can see me and Lester at the end of the table. Boy my hair was blonde….summer blonde I think they called that spray in color!

The photo was taken in August or September of 1995.  We all went the the Friday Night Steak Fry at the American Legion in Park Rapids Minnesota.  Back then a steak, baked potato, bread and salad with a cuppa coffee was $7.00….with all proceeds going for Nursing Scholarships of which our oldest daughter Trica was a recipient one year.

Lester and Joanne are farmers from South Dakota.  Lester died a few years ago.  Everyone else is from Indiana.  Kay was a Chicken Sexer.  She worked in a hatchery separating the boys from the girls.  Kay was full of fun and laughter she died of a Heart Attack two years after this photo was taken.  Elsie and Koons are both gone too…Koons in 2000 and Elsie in 2011, they were very special friends.  Far Guy’s Mom died in 2006.

Mark has since remarried…to Teresa.  Life goes on…he lives right across the street from the Feed Store he manages and real close to the Fire Hall.

Many of the tourists that came to our resort were from Indiana…no fuss people, they were happy to be out on the lake fishing.  ( Not big party keep you up all night types.)

Twenty years has passed just like that.

Up North resorts were different then. You fished, swam, paddled a canoe, sat by a fire at night -- entertained yourself! Nice you made so many friends among your guests.

What a wonderful memory of visitors. And that they became friends is a bonus for you.

Chicken Sexer . . . now there's an interesting job I wish I had on my resume! Has to be a great conversation starter! There's nothing better than 'Up North!" Great lifestyle.

I'm guessing that these friends returned to the resort annually for many years. Most likely, they pitched in to help with chores, too.

Time does go by quickly and the older we get the faster it seems to go. However, you show good times and memories.

So many have passed on, too sad, but it's good to have the memories and photos of the good times shared together. BG and I are often talking about how we have so much we want yet to do and there is so little time when you stop and think about it. The years are flying by.

How fun! I am writing this on my laptop at 37,000 feet! Cost me some money, but five hours is really dragging by. :-)

Isn't it amazing how quickly time passes as we age:(

So strange to come across a blogger from my area! I live in Nevis and work in Park Rapids. Nice to meet ya! :) I lost my husband two years ago. I'm in my late fifties, so I can relate to much on your blog.

It sounds and looks like you've had a great life and great friends so far. It is sad to see them go but then that is life and we have to enjoy each moment as none of us know when it might be our last or that of someone we love.
