The Third Snow

The rain turned to ice and then to snow.  It wouldn’t have been so bad if we could have stayed home.

Far Guy had an early appointment in Fargo ( 85 miles away).  We slipped and slid there early in the morning.  His Doctor ordered a CT Scan of his lungs and an Ultrasound of his liver.  All tests were completed in 42 minutes. The technician said “I thought for sure you would call and cancel.” Nope we wanted to get it over with. The sun came out and the roads dried out and they were just fine until Detroit Lakes where we stopped for breakfast…blueberry pancakes for me yum!  Far Guy had some Chicken Biscuit Gravy thing.

The price of gasoline is  under $2.00 a gallon.

The last 33 miles home were icy.  Three cars in the ditch.  We slid a couple of times.  Enough to say “Oh crap” or worse a couple of times.

This car crossed over three lanes of traffic to hit the ditch.

People were driving too fast, and it didn’t help that the wind was gusting to 40 mph.

Winter is here.

The third snow two inches

I took a photo of the snow stick just before taking my afternoon nap.  We were glad to be home safe and sound.

My report:  Far Guy does have a gizzard (gallbladder) all these years I thought he was missing his…but I saw it on the ultrasound.  He also has a liver, and he has a small cyst on his right kidney…which according to the Ultrasound gal is a normal occurrence.

Glad you got there and back in one piece and that the diagnosis is relatively harmless so far. I hope it stays that way.

We have been promised the first signs of winter for the weekend after an unseasonably warm November. Can’t say I relish the thought.

Glad the two of you made it home safe.

Two inches! Glad you all got home safely.

So glad to hear that Far Guy is okay and that you both made it home safe and sound. That type of driving conditions make me really nervous. We had the really bad wind yesterday and the snowstorm is headed our way fro Friday night and Saturday - anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of the yucky stuff predicted. Have a safe weekend.

Those driving conditions made my stomach clench just reading about it. You are, after all, precious cargo. So glad to know FG is doing as well as can be expected. All in all, good news, and I'm glad you are home safe and sound. :-)

It seems like people forget how to drive in snow until after the fourth or fifth storm.

Snowing in Wyoming this morning - about two inches and still falling. This is the second storm here, so I will still have to deal with drivers who think they can drive on snow as well as they can a dry road and at the same speed too. After all, they have a four wheel drive. Aargh!

I may grumble about the warm weather here, but I do not miss driving on ice and snow. We lived in Colorado for 2 years and the driving scared the Be'Jesus out of me.

The first month of winter is the worst- everyone forgets how to drive! Glad you made it home safely. Tell Chance that there is still hope that a pup will be named after him- Tess was bred (for the final time even if she doesn't catch) on November 15th, so pups should be due mid January.

Glad you were able to make it home safe and sound! Sounds like Far Guys test went good. We haven't seen below 2 dollars a gallon yet here. My sister said she paid 1.74 last night.

Glad you made it to Fargo and back safely. Those roads looked very slippery.

Yikes! Looks like people are out of practice. A couple more snows and they'll have their mojo back. One hopes! You were brave to get out and make the trip but I'm sure it's nice to have the tests over with.

There's a reason I retired from Minnesota. ;)

You were both very brave to make an 85 mile trip (one way) on those icy roads. So glad that you made it there and back OK. Glad that medical matters are looking good. Love the picture of Chance with his ball.

Whoa Nellie! You are brave! I would have canceled and rescheduled but then your roads are a little straighter. Here that would have been pure suicide with all the hills/mountains. I'm so glad you made it there and back safely and that the results were good. The Casey's sign brought back memories!
My daughter called last night and she's all excited about the snow they're supposed to get today and tonight. She and I love a good storm as long as people and property don't get hurt. I'll be watching the weather channel to live vicariously through other people's snow storms! Boo..Hoo....I wish I was there.

Thanks for sharing...so glad I live in Texas with no snow, as I have plenty of memories.

Why is it that sometimes when you have major medical appointments, road conditions are at their worst?

I HATE driving in weather like that! And it always seems there are those who think they can still drive like banshee's. I'm glad you are home safe!

I'm so glad you got back home safe. I hate driving on icy roads and would have been scared to death. I bet it felt good to get home!!

Oh yuk to your weather! I'm glad you took your time on the roads and made it home safely. Sometimes when you hit black ice there is nothing you can do but wait until the ditch stops you:( Good that you got the ultra sounds done though!

Our gas mysteriously went down to $1.60 after a big box store opened a new gas station. Funny how a little competition can do that.

Those ultrasound photos are so fascinating. I am glad normal can be maintained. The ice and snow makes me tense while driving. That had to be a tough batch of miles. Our first snow is coming right now as I type this.

WOW ! winter there already ? seems to of hit fast ! . We here in Southwestern Ontario eh? lol are lucky as we are usually buried in it by now , after this unusual warm spell in the beginning of this month we had we are getting cold now but thankfully no snow as of yet FEW ! Up northern Ontario gona get at least 30cm we down here are just getting mixed precipitation so far over the weekend ! I am glad you guys are safe and yes a few choice words I can hear when slip sliding about lol ! Lots of cars in the ditch cause they don't have snow tires on yet either I can imagine . I have cysts on my liver and Kidneys and I was also told that is normal but they do check them every year just to make sure they aren't changing so far all is good after 4 years . I hope all the tests Far Guy had come back all ok . Have a good weekend and be safe eh ?

Praise God you are home safely and not in a ditch somewhere or in the hospital from an accident due to the other drivers going so fast. Sounds like hibernation time is here for you all - - - followed by cabin fever! You will probably be posting your "countdown to Christmas" List soon? Decorating - - cooking - - gift wrapping etc. Most of our gifts for the kids and grands are purchased. THANK YOU internet!!!

Well, winter has arrived in full force! Glad you got back safely. Gas here was 1.06 a liter this morning. If I'm correct 4 L equals a bit more than a US gallon. So we paid roughly twice as much as you. Hopefully next week we'll go into the US ( its just a few miles) and fill the pick-up as well as do some shopping. We'd probably go more often except for those darn long waits in line at the border.

So glad you guys made it back home safely on such slippery roads. I probably would have cancelled, but I understand your wanting to get it over with. Scary though when people are sliding off the road. Hope you can wait for a nice day next time, to travel! :o)

Stay warm, stay safe and except for the wonderful visit I would miss, I am glad I'm not there!

Winter has arrived!
Icy driving is not fun, but good for you for braving it to get FG's tests done. The results look to be good news.

So glad you made it home safely! Sounds like winter is there in earnest, this time!

What a morning to be out on the road. I'm glad you got the tests over with, though. And quickly because other people cancelled--LOL! Glad you got home safe. I sure hope we do see more snow on the stick this year. If I had a snow stick out last year it would have been pretty lonely. LOL! Sounds like test results were good, too. :)
