Mid October

The fourth mulching of leaves has been completed along with some raking and some leaf blowing.  We had a horrible wind on Monday and many of the trees lost all their leaves…we figure that the leaves are 80 % down.  (Two more mulchings and our fall lawn work will be done…unless it snows then we are done for sure.)

One of our old Aspens (Piss Popple) came down in the storm…luckily it fell in the woods.

The Juncos came back for a few days and they have left again.  They usually bring snow…this time they just brought cold weather…it went from 88 degrees one day to barely 46 degrees the next.

Juncos stopped by

As you can see our grass is still green and growing…that wind on Monday brought some rain.

Monarch in the Mustard

The Monarchs are still out in the Mustard field.

My Doctor says I am still way low on Potassium…she is thinking over what she wants to do…probably add more pills.  I got a Flu Shot a High Dose one…right in my Gluteus Maximus…it made a ball about the size of a tennis ball…better there than in my arm. Far Guy got his Flu shot too in the arm.

We started to put away lawn furniture…when Jen and Andy were here they carried the lawn swing into my garage.

My Marigolds were frozen…they were nice flowers while they lasted.

 Frozen Marigolds

Fall is coming on strong…the furnace comes on late in the day and in the evening.

Love the photos. I have mulched twice now. We also had the strong wind and it blew a lot of leaves off the trees. It was raining leaves for a while. The nights have been getting very cool, but daytime temps are still in the low 60's. Haven't turned the furnace on yet; I just bundle up.

That's a nice monarch shot, with the pretty yellow flowers. We've got a couple nice days and then... rain as far as the eye can see. I don't mind, though; it was so dry here this summer it felt like Arizona! :-)

Nice to see the fall cleanup jobs near done. I on the other hand yesterday entered the "active" instead of "passive" phase of my shoulder surgery rehab. I know have permission to life a coffee cup with my left hand BUT ONLY IF THEIR IS NO COFFEE IN IT . They say patience is a virtue but I have neither of those...:)

This morning we were only 1 degree above freezing. Will have to go see how my flowers fared. I have to take my annual "Collies in the Colours" photo before I mulch the leaves from the maple trees that line the driveway.

I'm waiting, not so patiently for one tree to drop its leaves. I got my flu shot last week and didn't have any lasting effects. Next year, I qualify for the high dose vaccine.

I love autumn even if it brings the cold weather. It is just so refreshing after the heat of summer.
About your potassium - - - you have probably researched on the internet, the foods that are rich in potassium? Pills are no fun if they can be avoided. I hate these doctors think they need to keep telling us news that is not what we want to hear.

We are just to hot 90's' but they say we will got some cold weather next week.
The trees are changing color now.

I can't believe the monarchs are still hanging on with such cold weather. I will be watching for the juncos. I see they dropped a birdseed by a whole dollar to get me hooked at buying it again. I am going to start feeding and put niger seed in it to draw in some goldfinch. I will be bringing in my furniture when the snow is blowing or after the first snow has melted. It is a given for me to not get it done in time.

Nice photo of the monarch! I suppose they won't be hanging around for very much longer.

We had the high winds here on Saturday Oct. 11. It was a mees. We don't have many leaves left. I think the leaves went with the wind to Minnesota. Where's my 55C Eh?

Yikes! That's a heckuva reaction to the flu shot! Hope that tennis ball didn't last long.

Hi Connie, Catching up tonight. That sure is a drastic drop in temps. I love the monarch photo. Hope the Dr. can figure out your potassium. We had a flu shot about 2 weeks ago. No big lump but my arm was sore for many days. We don't have leaves to rake here, thankfully. We placed a pot of fake mums and a pumpkin by the front door. I hope you guys will have a good weekend. Hugs to Chance.

We've been working in the yeard, starting the fall clean up in the garden beds, planting bulbs for spring color. Leaves are just beginning to turn here in our shady yard.
You reminded me - we need to get our flu shots!

When I was growing up I didn't know Juncos had any name other than "snowbirds". Maybe because they do often bring snow? Interesting. I need to buy more birdseed soon and get the feeder filled.

I heard them talking about MN weather this morning on the weather channel. No snow yet but colder for sure. I'm tired of the heat here and I have no idea how to dress when I get up in the morning. I thought the hummers left on the 10th but then there was one there yesterday and the day before(14th and 15th). I'm thinking he was just a layover from the North going South. We had some rain last night which I am grateful for as there are fire warnings in many parts of the state right now.
Glad you're getting your work outside done in time. I have lots to do and the RA isn't helping. Stay warm!

Freeze warnings last night and they said that will be the last warning since it was so widespread. I guess pretty much everything has been frostbitten by now. Winter coat weather. I hope they can get your potassium straightened out. Stay warm!! :)

Brrr...hard to believe you are in the 40s when we've been sailing through the mid 90s. When did you take that beautiful photo of the monarch? Couldn't have been the same day the furnace was running!
