Chance: Happy Birthday to me!

Today is my day!  I am ELEVEN years old today!  I am an old guy now, sometimes they call me an old fart.

I am a spoiled boy.  At my elderly age my ears must be cleaned on a regular basis…with mineral oil…and my teeth get cleaned often. I like my rides every evening /late afternoon…my sorts are out if we don’t go for a ride.  I moan and groan like it is the end of the world…WELL it feels like it is….then we usually get to go!!!

I have important jobs. I walk with Far Guy everyday, first we get the mail and then we go for more walks later in the day …about 2 1/2 miles…I have met some other dogs while walking…one dog gets walked while his owner is in a golf cart.  Far Side walks too some days… just not as far.

My arthritis is worse some days than others…some days I limp a little and sometimes jumping in the car is really hard….but I still get there!

Far Guy didn’t think I would make it through the winter last year…but I surprised him.

Far Guy worked on a special “spot” for me most of the summer while I chased the dirt and the shovel.  Two big buckets were filled with dirt and brought in to the workshop/greenhouse and one day when Andy stopped by he dug the “spot” a little deeper…until Far Side said “Good enough.”  It is all covered with a board now so someone won’t accidently fall in. ( I bet if Far Side fell in she wouldn’t be happy…in fact she might get cranky crankier.

Miney and me.

Miney is still my best friend…then Odda, Little Elvis and Putz…I like them all….and my sisters and kids and balls….and Far Guy and Far Side even when she is bossy (which is most of the time).

Happy Birthday to me! I don’t know what they have planned for me…but I know there are some homemade pumpkin treats that will be calling my name.

Happy Birthday Chance! Don't worry, eleven is nothing! My border collie, Scout, is going to be thirteen on October 28th. He takes Previcox every day to help arthritis, and it is very, very helpful for him. He still goes on long hikes with the young dogs every day, and he is still the farm boss! He only needs half of the normal dose of Previcox at this point to keep him comfortable. I hope he will be with me for more years to come.

Happy Birthday, Chance! Don't ever think that at 11 you are old. You are still and always will be the Handsomest Border Collie ever.

Happy Birthday, Chance - and please stay around for a long time yet - because we all love you so much. I am sorry you are bothered with arthritis - but so are many of us, so join the club. You are still the best looking boy!

I am having a hard time thinking that Chance is that old...wow congrats to him. I remember him as a young pup it feels like...well at least 7 years younger.

Happy birthday, Chance. You are about 3 months older than Miss Karma. She has days she limps more, too. You are still the most handsome dog in Minnesota! :)

Barney turned 12 recently. He was a rescued dog from Missouri so we don't really know for sure his actual age. I found photo of a yellow puppy border collie and he must have been a real cute guy. . The vet. declared his age and we picked a date. Happy Birthday Chance. May you have a great winter with that beautiful fur coat of yours.

Happy Belated Birthday, Chance. We don't celebrate birthdays as we are all "rescue" animals and therefore Mom doesn't know when we were born so, we all celebrate when it's her birthday. That must be pretty creepy though to have them digging your grave already. Geez, that's worse than getting all those AARP things in the mail when your in your 40's so Mom remembers. But then us Midwesterners are a practical people and we "do what needs to be done". I hope you enjoyed your birthday and that the Arthritis doesn't get you down. I have it now too but Annie doesn't but her back hurts her sometimes when she goes up and down stairs. Old age is not for the faint of heart! Hang in there! Licks and smells..............Nitty

Happy Belated Birthday Dear Chance ~ 11 years old. Our last two old pups we couldn't be prepared we didn't have the signs until suddenly and then of course it was winter. You will fool them, just watch. Drink lots of water, ask for many treats, you good ol' dog!
