Orange/Green Trees

It is about time I give you an update about those orange trees that were damaged by some kind of corporate crop overspray last Fall.

I was told by some “other” horticultural people that nothing could be proved.  It was almost as though they wanted me to shut up…imagine that.

They are showing some recovery, the new growth is green…but they still look a lot orange/different.

Since we drive by this stand of trees when we go to town, I can keep an eye on them. If they were my trees I would be a tad angry.   Hopefully they will recover completely over the next few years.

The pea field across from us was sprayed with Round Up before the peas were harvested…I think I reported on this blog that one day they were green and  in a few days they turned brown.  They have worked up the field and are irrigating it again.  The Canada Geese still like to spend evenings there.

 Geese in the pea field

That is the tree and field report for today.

Good grief. Who would be dumb enough to spray a consumable crop before harvesting? And the trees are a true shame. Looks like you're as surrounded by chemicals as someone who lives in an over-developed city in China!

Somehow spraying an edible crop with Round Up before harvesting just doesn't sound right to me. Should I be eating those peas? Don't think I would be very happy with all those chemicals being sprayed around my house. Next thing I know you will be telling us about Far Guy glowing green in the dark with an extra arm or leg starting to grow. hehe!

I am glad I only eat organic veggies grown locally. You made me wonder if somebody is trying to kill off those trees, I'm happy to hear they are beginning to recover. Maybe somebody made a mistake and doesn't want to admit it. Won't Roundup hurt those geese? :-(

We never spray anything in our garden, I do the weeds by hand, so satisfying and my husband deals with the creepy, crawlies.

This is why I spend too much money to get organic fruits and vegetables. When the crop dusters came over our house in northern Minnesota I would jump in the car and drive as fast as I could away. They were spraying the field crops but the drift always came right over the house and yard as well. Ugh.

I'm into natural solutions this summer, so I, too, don't think Round Up is a great idea.

Good grief. And I'm pretty sure you'd have been more than a tad angry. I know I would be!

I trial sprayed a batch of chemical to get rid of the creeping charlie. The fumes of that did move on to the hostas and bishop weed. The green may just eventually die if they keep spraying chemicals each spring.

One of our neighbors lost her veggie garden due to a misguided spraying. Fortunately another neighbor, the farmer, volunteered to compensate for the lose. I lost some shrubs years ago in a similar circumstance. What I worry about those is the damage to peoples health caused by the relentless agricultural use of herbicides and pesticides in our area....:(

The use and overuse of chemicals is rather sad.

Glad to know they didn't die, we watched a plane coming low over the house over and over
spraying a field behind us.

Many people do not even consider the effect of pesticides and herbicides on the surrounding area. It is sad that for money's sake we are killing the environment inch by inch.

I will climb off my stump now.

Have a great evening.

I had the same thought...I do NOT want to eat something that has just been sprayed with Roundup. Cancer-in-a-can.

It sounds like the peas were a cover crop to enrich the soil, not to harvest. Otherwise that makes no sense. I'm glad that the trees have a chance to recover. i was sure they were goners.

Crazy things people do to the environment. It makes us angry but also I think we feel helpless against those that foul the earth with toxic chemicals. Makes me glad for the produce that I can grow and know what hasn't been sprayed on it.

The trees are looking a little better. It would be good to see them green again.

Love your blog! But we have so many problems in this country now ....don't even let me get started. May your little corner of the world be a joy for you.

They hauled the peas away in trucks:)

I doubt is was round-up but whatever it was not good for trees. We have crop fields on the south side of our house and when they spray it seems the wind is from the south. Pine tree damaged but is okay. Coffee Bean Tree and Black Walnuts have less than half the leaves they should have so I am worried.

if it indeed was Round-up...that is "powerful stuff". I've used it on the farm, but only in extreme cases. Hope the trees come back....I don't like losing a single tree.

We've had the ditch company kill three of our trees...made me furious. And the neighbor who rents across from us, sprayed our Weeping Willow...Oh sorry he said...you can't prove it. And off he drove. GRRRRRR

I wonder if there are pine beetles in your area? That's what the trees looked like here before they all died from those bugs too. Sad isn't it, that so many people just don't care?
