Wistful Wednesday: Summer Fun

Nothing better than kids growing up on a farm and finding ways to entertain themselves.Marvin and another child

Far Guy’s Grandma Tracie marked these photos. The one above is marked 4 1/2 years.

Marvin Older boy younger boy unknown

This one is marked five years.  Far Guy’s Dad would have been five years old in the summer of 1919.  I don’t think that Ronald born in March of 1918 would be old enough to be in the photos…unless Grandma was off by a year then  it is possible.  That is the old barn in the background.

The wagon looks to be outfitted with a steering wheel of some sort and a wooden crate.  I am not sure what the lampshade thing on top could be.

I bet these two went on some real adventures.

I think farm kids were much better adjusted than city kids. those two look like they would have been quite adventurous.

These are definitely precious pictures. And it didn't take much in those days to play for hours, I'll bet. :-)

We use to love visiting our grandmother's farm in Oklahoma when we were kids.

I am reminded of a cartoon on PBS called "Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks"

The trio in the cartoon ride a contraption called the "Raloo Rocket". :)

Me and a cousin have so many good memories there , poor little kids today are just city bred.

Those are wonderful photos. I am amazed that they had a camera but some people loved to try out new inventions. I remember having a photo of my mom and her brother and they both had cameras with some one else with a camera taking their photo.

Priceless pictures!! Even 40 years later we had to think up our own entertainment. "Use your brains! Think of something to do." "Go outside and play" was what we heard. They were just starting to come out with toys that kind of did the thinking for you, but my folks wouldn't spend money on such nonsense--LOL! ;)
