Wistful Wednesday : Old Newspaper Photos

“She who sees robins first” clipped a photo out of a local paper.  I figured it was a bit of family history so I scanned it.  It is still on my desk but it will make it’s way to Cousin Chuckie.

scan for Chuckie

The original photo was most likely taken in 1949.   My cousins would know.  I have two first cousins ( Uncle Jalmer’s  and Aunt Jenny’s sons) on the left hand side of the photo…Chuckie (Melvin) in the back in the white jacket and Gerald in front of him in the plain coat holding his hat in his hand. See those two boys in the front row with the matching jackets they are my second cousins…brothers Richard and David sons of my Great Uncle Levi ( My paternal Grandfather’s brother) and Great Aunt Ida.

We go to woodcarving with Chuckie…in this photo he looks very much like his only grandson Aiden who just turned ten years old.

I imagine these nine little boys gentlemen were a handful for the teacher.

I'll bet they were, though I preferred teaching boys to teaching girls. Boys are straight forward and girls can be so devious.

I love these old clippings, from a bygone era. And the fact that you still have some of them in your lives, in their present form, is really cool. :-)

I love those plaid coats - so typical of that time.

Your photo reminds me that I have a stack of old newspapers to look through. That really is a winter job. Those boys had lots of energy and I bet at recess they did run and tumble.

Cute picture and that was the year I was born in January in the middle of a snowstorm..maybe that's why I love snow so much! LOL! I bet they were a handful and they all look like they have mischief in their eyes. Aren't they cute though.

They look all bundled up and full of energy.

They look typical for 1949. I could bring my school picture out and we'd see the same clothes and haircuts.

What a fun look back to the past. Love the plaid jackets! Reminds me of all the kids we had in the neighborhood when I was growing up . . . mostly boys. Loved it!
