Ugliness

Daughter Jen said I was too cranky so I have been TRYING to look on the brighter side of life the past few days. IT ISN’T WORKING. I must have relapsed.

Seems to me that there is an awful lot of ugliness going on lately.

People in Wally World up in Grand Forks North Dakota were shot by a madman, one died and one was wounded then he shot himself.

A sixty year old woman’s head and hair caught on fire…musta been mixing explosive combustible ingredients of some kind.  You think she would know better.  Wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age.  She died.

A group of young men stole grocery carts full of meat from the Wally World in town, they were going to resell the meat for money to buy drugs.

People on probation for a felony are given credit for time served and released back into society.

School is out and for some children school lunch was their food for the whole day.

The way we treat our Veterans at Veterans Clinics is deplorable…I know this from first hand experience.  I was silent (it was really hard) and listened to their woes…money and budget cuts and they are just there to do Health Care not Health Insurance.   They cannot provide care to every medical need of the Veterans.  I had heard mixed reviews…now I know for certain that we as Americans should be ashamed of ourselves for not insisting our Veteran’s get the healthcare they need.

Discouraged…yes I am.

I think I will stop listening to the news for awhile, too bad there isn’t a good news only channel.

Thanks for listening…I feel a bit better now.

Hi, I agree with you completely about healthcare for our Veterans. It is revolting that stories like Jenner are all over the news. Some days I don't even listen to the news. We rarely go anywhere; occasionally WalMart. Just the other day, a young woman drove up to me as I was loading my groceries in the WM parking lot, smoking a cigarette, begging for $$ - let's see, what is wrong with that picture!!!!!!!!!
I hope little Miney will be all right. Keep me posted. xo

I can't listen to the news too often, just to keep my own mind peaceful. There is nothing I can do about most of it and I decided if I can't help, I probably don't have to know. Now I'm off to google the Walmart shooting so close to home . Apparently I do have to know! Hope you hear some good news today, Connie!

Weeeelllll, I sorta enjoy your rants...when they are kind of funny like the lady setting her hair on fire. The veterans health care deal...not funny at all.

I don't read the news in the summertime. I've found that I need a break from all the bad stuff happening in the world.

I have found the news is just plain depressing lately. I totally agree with you about our care of our Veterans - it is deplorable. There is just too much evil in the world these days. And I know burying my head in the sand doesn't make it go away but it helps me make it thru the day. You can rant all you want because I'll be right there with you. My hubby says I am Cranky also.

I get most of my news from the internet, so I can pick and choose what I want to read. I know what you mean about our veterans and the "care" they get, and have to fight for what little there is. Something has gone screwy in our priorities. I have a guy who always asks for money right outside the coffee shop. I don't give him any, since I notice he's got a smartphone and pays for it probably with gullible people's donations. (grump)

I agree with you about the veterans and I think it is deplorable that we expect them to die for our country but when they are done fighting, we toss them away- out of sight, out of mind.

Good news is out there, but seldom in the spotlight because human nature is drawn to gossip, scandal and tragedy. That's the way is is and always will be. How's that for a ray of sunshine? As you see, I've been cranky lately too.

My husband reads everything in the newspaper and follows news on TV, but I avoid it. He fills me in on anything I ""need to know".

I avoid what I can - the media "sensationalizes" things to the point of absurdity. Heck, they even do this with the weather - hyping up the storms.

Hope you feel better today.

I like to watch the news, but often am not around at that time, or am late to turn it on. I do find that our local news stations like to pass on some good news stories.

So much bad news out there, try not to watch. But along with the bad is always good too...Blessings Francine.

I avoid the news like the plague.

I don't know where to turn to help veterans. I know even years ago it was very difficult, a three hour drive and an all day affair to see a doctor with Dad.

Maybe the world will wake up.

I quit watching the news years ago.Sometimes we just have to trust in God that things will work out according to His plan and despite our interference.

Yes, I agree. Our veterans deserve much better. And if there was a "good news channel" on tv, that's all I'd watch!

You might think you're cranky and there is so much on the news that SHOULD make us feel that way, but . . . when you typed "Your mother is a dunce!" in reply to a comment after a recent post about high school graduation photos, I snorted laughter when I figured out that you were replying to your daughter!!!

How do you feel about peonies? (not the scent, I get that issue).

Sometimes the news on TV can be so depressing. Are only bad things happening in the world? Are we going to hell in a hand basket? It can't help but be upsetting. I'm hearing from my daughter's inlaws how bad the VA can be. Hang in there -- you're not the only one.

I am no longer listening to the first half of the news...life here is difficult enough not to heap on more problems. My 80+ year old neighbor says just let it go in one ear Jen, and out the other...but I can't. So I ignore the TV news...listening to his problems is hard enough, LOL.

It's all a matter of what we look for, it we look for gloom and doom there are heaps of it out there. Difficult as it is, I'm trying to find some brightness in life. I tell him that he is awake, and kicking, and hey if that's not good news then imagine the alternative. LOL.

I find it hard to find national news stations anymore that I will listen to. One guy came directly from one political party who claims he isn't bias. On another station a news writer for their news has a father or uncle that works in the Presidents group of aids. When he tells us how Obama hasn't really played too much golf, I know where that news came from. And the one other we can get to hear, had to replace their lead guy because he exaggerated things that would mean he gave the news to lean his own way for all those your years. I get my news from off the internet from sites that are called radically right wing because they actually are telling all and are condemned for it by main stream media and the President.

I worked in a VA hospital actually 2 one of them in Portland Oregon they spent billions building a new hospital affiliated with the OHSU complex, it takes 4 months to 6 months for a medical check up and ptsd veterans will wait until God walks this earth..The Denver VA hospital was being rebuilt to the Pharmacy where I worked, it was vastly different, then I worked in the former VA hospital in Vancouver Washington it was wonderful used to be called Barnes Hospital whereby Veterans were treated well, now it is a vast domicilary/mental health center and ptsd center..The hospital in Portland is deplorable and the hospital in Denver wonderful and the tiny place here in Vancouver Washington is wonderful, why can't they get it right it is shameful that veterans who fought for our country are treated like crap yes they are, they are building a huge homeless/alcoholic center with state of the art facilities here Veterans with chronic alcoholism and homeless get first dib on the housing, thanks to God Washington state has Senator Patty Murray who is a powerhouse to the veterans causes.. We only watch pbs shows and listen to news from seattle we are about 300 miles away from Seattle but I got an old radio that gets the signal and we listen daily, it is the most accurate! Keep smiling Connie and praying for your hubs to feel much much better!

I used to tell my children that if they didn't like something they should do something about it or they had no right to complain. LOL! I know it's hard to watch the news and sometimes it isn't worth it but I find I am an armchair activist and there are many petitions and actions you can take. It might make you feel less helpless/angry at the situation(s).

There are very real things to be upset about. I don't like what they're do to our veterans. However, our government is just being cheap.

Well, there is a Good News "channel"...but you won't find it on the TV :(

Sorry you feel so discouraged...I can hardly blame you, knowing what you are going through and the stories you are hearing. It's okay to vent; that's what friends are for.

Linda Reeder said...

Well, you even managed to find an ugly plant picture to go with your ugly meed! Good job!

Rita said...

That is why I don't watch the news. I seem to hear things anyways (like the guy shooting people in WallyWorld in Grand Forks) and I have friends and relatives who have promised to tell me if anything big happens. Although...more and more of them are avoiding the news lately, too--LOL! I like the idea of a good news channel. Now that I would watch in a heartbeat! ;)

I know I'm like the proverbial "ostrich with its head in the sand" but I don't watch or listen to any news and I don't read the newspaper or news magazines. I see some headlines when I go onto the computer and I hear what other people are talking about and that's more than enough for me. I find that I'm calmer/less stressed and less angry by not knowing about things I can't change (ie, earthquakes, storms, shootings, the wicked hearts of mankind, etc). I have "causes" that I'm passionate about and support and I do my best to positively impact people and situations in my little piece of the world. Anything more than that and I'd have to nickname myself "Eyore", hahaha.

I had to stop listening also...just made me sick. And why or why cut the health care for Vets...I just don't get it.

I agree. We've just had the Alton Towers roller coaster disaster here in the UK too. I avoid soaps. They are depressing generally. Soaps are the likes of Eastenders and coronation street tv shows. They are so real life they're miserable.

I've found listening to too much news does the same to me. I do what I need to to make the world a good place to be for all, the news stations do what they need to to make money and rating and sensationalize. Sigh...hope you are better.
