Pretty Birds

It is not often that we get Purple Finches back here in the Oaks.

Purple Finch

This one visited.  At least I think it is a Purple Finch….didn’t seems large enough or have the right amount of markings to be a Pine Grosbeak.  The bird book describes a Purple Finch as being a sparrow dipped in raspberry juice…and I can see that.

For about two years I have had this bird stuck in a basket near my desk.  Time to move it out!

My bird

I found him at Craft’s Direct at Waite Park, Minnesota…that is some place to shop.  You need hours there and you still walk away knowing you didn’t see the whole store.

It is warmish here ( 70’s) and we had a good hatch of skeeters.  It is time to mow the lawn again…about every five days it needs mowing.  The wild raspberries are just starting to form berries.  When they ripen Chance eats them right off the bushes as do the pretty birds.

Summer is a third over since this is the last day of June.

Pretty little finch and I like the bird décor too. I would love to visit the craft store with you.
John's been down in his back, so he had to find someone to cut our grass. (all we own is a reel mower and I can't push it!) The guy can't come till Fri. so we are looking a little shaggy! The neighbors probably wonder!
Hope you continue to feel better. xo

Our grass has just simply turned brown and stopped growing, everywhere it seems. The good part is that it doesn't need mowing, and the skeeters are way down as well, with nowhere to breed. Every time I visit your site and see you haven't yet changed your header, I spend some time admiring it. :-)

Love your bird decor. Sounds like my kind of craft store. I refuse to mow my lawn more than once a week and I've relented only once. Mowed after 6 days. Why do we work so hard to grow our grass only to cut it down?

We have these little finch all year coming to the sunflower feeder.

I can never see why they call them purple!! :) This is definitely a Purple Finch.

A Pine Grosbeak has vivid white "Sargent" bars on his wings. Can't tell from you photo - but I suspect this one isn't a Grosbeak!

70s!!!! I'm coming to visit! We've been over 100 for 4 days. And yes - purple finch indeed and they have lovely songs. I love your metal art - have some in my garden too!

The beak looks very grosbeak. I haven't seen a purple finch in my yard for years. they do still nest here.

I thought time was going fast. It needs to slow down so I can catch up. We have the house finches and rarely have the purple finch. I keep wanting to call my house finches, purple ones, and every time I look it up and stand corrected. The town can not keep up with spraying the mosquitoes. It is pretty miserable. With the Canada smoke and humidity, it isn't nice outside.

We used to see purple Finches here occasionally, but not in a long time. I had forgotten about them.

I agree with your call on the finch. The craft bird is fun and the craft store sounds like a vary tempting field trip!

"A sparrow dipped in raspberry juice"--now, that's an apt description!

Beautiful little birds. I heard a racket on the roof yesterday, it was three Ravens dancing around up there. It is amazing how much the sound carries, sounded like something much bigger up there!

It really does looked dipped in raspberry juice--LOL! That really is a cute metal birdie that is looking good outside, too. :)

I'd be eating raspberries directly off the bush, too. Yumm

Cute yard decoration! I must admit I will miss not being bothered by mosquitoes here. I have probably had 2 bites in 13 years. I have no idea why we don't have many but we make up for it with ticks and armadillos! LOL!
