Corny solution

It is cold…below zero and windy so the wind chills are unbearable.   Seems like we are stuck in this below zero weather pattern for a few days.

The only respite for me is picking a cleaning /organizing project or several every morning to complete. Then I get most of the rest of the day to hibernate and do what ever I want.

The best thing I did last fall was to find some flannel in my stash and sew up some squares.  This is leftover fabric from my flannel valance in the kitchen…I finally got that part of the kitchen cleaned and put up the flannel valance over the weekend.  It makes the kitchen seem warmer somehow.corn bag

Anyways back to my creation…I sewed up three sides and most of the fourth side, turned it right side out and put a bunch of whole kernel corn inside from the Farm Supply Store.  Then I sewed up the opening…it’s not fancy.  If you throw it in the microwave for three minutes you can be toasty warm under a down comforter.   If you microwave it longer than three minutes it starts to smell like burnt corn.

I take one of these to sleep with me most every night, I have arthritis in one leg due to an old injury and if I am cold or my leg is cold I cannot sleep.  It is also perfect for extra warmth whilst watching a movie on Netflix in the afternoon…of course the warmth usually sends me off to napland!

Okay . . . the fabric is cute, the leg-warming pad sounds cozy, but your label made me laugh out loud. There it was in itty bitty blue letters under your post and logo. Have a great day and stay warm!

I would guess the key to success is to get the right kind of corn or you could have some unexpected excitement.

I have a pad that I heat in the microwave, too, but I purchased it. I'm not sure of the filling (some sort of grain), but if heated too much it has a nutty smell.

Oh I love it I have been wearing my heat bag constantly. Yours is much prettier. Keep warm. Hug B

I have one of those, just not filled with corn. Yours is much prettier than mine They are one of the best inventions. I use mine all the time. Stay warm and safe.

I have a foot warmer, but a purchased one, that can go in the micro for a bit of a warmup. It does help me fall right to sleep when my feet are chilled.

"Everything old is new again" is a current phrase. I seem to remember my grandmother heating up a rock to put in bed on cold nights. I suppose she used the wood stove to do this? Does anyone else remember this?

I made some of those, with rice in them. Heat them up and it smells like rice:)

Yes I have heard of rocks warmed on the woodstove during the day and put into a sock and taken to bed. :)

The micro manager has a small one of these and it contains wheat.I guess they're very comfortable. But you are going to get warm some day. We've had a great Feb and the forecast is great for the next week.

I have an old soap stone that was used under your feet while you drove a carriage. I heated it in the oven when I used it, but I'm sure it was originally in the fire.

I have never heard of these before, rice, corn nor wheat. I at first thought you were making a pillow. I saw a pillow made from acorns in a movie. It was very rustic. The wind here is also unbearable. Hate to go out into it.

It has snowed here all day, the hugest floaty flakes. I make these with wheat and they not only warm you but smell wonderful!

It was 67 Saturday and yesterday morning it was 17...49 degree difference in less than 24 hours! It snowed today but it was wimpy. But because there's no removal equipment or salt trucks here we're stuck until it melts. I have everything the girls and I need...I make sure of it.
Your corn filled bag sounds good..it would be nice to have a whole comforter like that but I guess it would be hard to fir in the microwave! LOL! I love flannel and that is pretty.

The little corn comforter sounds really cozy. It's cold here. I wish I had one. :)

That sounds like a very worthwhile project for you living there in the frozen north.

Great idea! Sounds very warm and cozy. One below zero as I am reading this. Poor Chance must hate going out in this weather, too.
