Chance: The Sock Monkey

I HAD a Sock Monkey.   It sat up by Far Guys books.  Far Side would get it down every once in a while and throw it in the air and I would make it squeak.  She would make me give it up when I started to play rough….you know growling and shaking it to smithereens.  The Sock Monkey was safe up there…until  this week Far Guy just gave me the monkey… jackpot…or maybe it was a brain fart.

I had a monkey

I had a blast…Far Side grabbed her camera.

Ripped the batter and noise maker out

I ripped out the stuffing and the batteries and all the plastic innards that made those noises.  I made a big mess.

A skinny monkey

My Sock Monkey is much thinner now.

Do you know how bored a Border Collie can get cooped up inside when it is sub zero weather?  Pretty bored.  I got my ears cleaned this week and my toe nails clipped…seems play time ends in grooming time. I helped Far Side clean out my drawer in the kitchen…I supervised and watched so she just cleaned and straightened up…no throwing my stuff away.  I smelled everything to make sure it was still good, and counted all the extra balls.

Oh, poor Mr. Monkey. You scared the stuffing out of him with all your shaking. I can just imagine how bored you are with all this sub zero weather. I am pretty bored also. Glad you kept an eye on Far Side when she cleaned out your drawer; you know how mom's are when they start cleaning. Have a nice weekend.

Nice to visit with you, Chance, but gosh you sure did a number on that Sock Monkey. We are experiencing the other side of your sub-zero weather, so you could come on over here if you wanted to play. It's a little far, though. :-)

HI Chance,
My Boss is read a book this week about a dog who's name is Chance! I wondered if it's you. Probably not though.... This cold is making me really bored though. Our walks are getting shorter & shorter. Some days he just sends me out in the woods & stays inside the door watching....:{

Dear Chance, Winter is making me bored, too. When I get bored, I take an e-cation. I never chew on sock monkeys. I wonder if e-cations work for Border Collies, too. Ask Far Side for help checking out this site: http://www.bringfido.com/destination/region/united_states/ Maybe it will help take you mind off the cold.

Hi Chance:
Good to hear from you. Glad to hear none of your beloved toys were thrown out. We have a Boston Terrier who shares your love of tearing soft stuffed toys apart and he is very good at extracting those squeakers from stuffed toys. We find them all over the house. Have to be careful not to step on them in our bare feet.

Oh my, your poor Sock Monkey certainly didn't fare well during the play session!

Well.... at least you left his limbs intact! Hope your weather smartens up soon, so you can run to your hearts content.

Barney does that to every single stuffed animal so he doesn't get to be around them. Button plays with his stuffed animals upstairs away from big younger brother. In his younger days he would bite and pulled until he could make a hole in the animal. The stuffing all came out that he could get out of it. Mom would push it all back into it. When his mom gets tired of resewing it she just throws it away. He has one bear that was made by Martha Stewart company and he still can't get it torn apart. When I was young I had a hand-me-down sock doll but it didn't look this good as your's use to look.

Yep, my border collie Bear gets cabin fever, just like you, when he spends too much time inside.

Poor Chance to not be able to go out and romp around in the snow. My dogs would do the exact same thing to a sock monkey. I find the twisty cotton things to be the best, but I'm always picking up threads

Well, Chance, if nobody else will look after you, you've got to look after yourself!

Chance you made me laugh. I can see you now shaking that monkey. Eli has just about torn the head off one of his teddy bears.

Poor you being cooped up inside! Hope it warms up soon so you can go out and play. Mind you - with all that fur, you should be pretty warm outside...

I completely understand boredom and cabin fever in February, Chance. I want to run around outside and do something that doesn't involve a snow shovel or 15 layers of clothes, too. I don't blame you one bit for wanting to shake the squeek right out of that cheeky little sock monkey!

Funny--I was just thinking about a sock monkey yesterday! Dagan had one when he was little, carried it around with him and slept with it. I was just wondering about how hard they would be to make--for Ian, of course. Didn't occur to me about how hard they might be to keep together--LOL! And I never knew they came with squeakers. ;)

Chance,
The sock monkey looks like it should be in a horror movie! Like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes or something. You really took that baby on! I (Nitty,,,,Annie doesn't play with toys...we don't delve into it with her...we think she had a rough childhood) have a Fritzi ( a fish with squeaking eggs that I dig out, in record time I might add) and then a long Moose called (what else?) .....Moosie. Unfortunately, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt and that's exactly what happened this week. Mom and I were playing (in the house) she grabbed Fritzi and I jumped up and we collided.....my head with her nose) She screamed and fell back on the bed and there was all this blood! I thought I'd killed her or at least seriously injured her. But...there was only the one scream and then just some moaning and she got the bleeding stopped and told me all was okay but I still felt terrible. She's getting old.....I guess I need to be really careful around her. Just sayin'....these people are a lot more fragile than they look so be careful.
