Just watching birds

I bought a new very long hooky thing to hang in a tree so I could hang another feeder for the birds.  The squirrels don’t like feeders hung this way…too bad so sad.

Long Hooky thing

The long hooky thing holds the feeder in the shape of a ball that holds black sunflower seeds.  That is a Red Poll perched on the feeder.

Muthatch

A White Breasted Nuthatch or Assup as I call them.

Nuthatch Flying away

Assup taking off.

Red bellied woodpecker

The Red-Bellied Woodpecker showed up too.

Chance and I watched birds for quite a while Sunday afternoon…waiting for the sun to come out. It was 30 F  here yesterday or –1C eh.  I shoveled the patio and waited but the only thing showing up was birds.  The squirrels and Wild Turkeys know when I am outside waiting for them.  Far Guy spreads corn away from all the bird feeders for the squirrels, Blue Jays and turkeys…so far it is working to keep the seven squirrels we have busy and out of the bird feeders.

I like the new feeder. You are good at taking pictures of the birds. Not much to do outside but watch the birds when it's so cold and snowy.

Lovely photos , that's a different feeder I like it and your birdies seem to like it to ! I have flat feeders about for all the squirrel we have here to keep them off of the hanging bird feeders and it has worked for a few years now , We had mild temps and rain yesterday big patches of grass showing now and less snow on the ground , Still mild , hoping the sun shines soon ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !

I had to laugh when I finally figured out why you call it an assup. I love those pretty birds, and your pictures make me happy. I really like that feeder. It seems like a squirrel would be unable to get into it, but you never know with those scamper rats. :-)

I love that feeder and the extra long hook idea. I'll have to check into one of those. Also feeding the squirrels separate from the birds. Great pictures of your birds.

You are getting lots of action at your feeders. It's nice when a variety of birds show up.

What a great idea to hang the bird feeder so far out from the tree. From the videos I've seen it may not stop them, but at least if they have other places to go it will be a deterrent. We saw a huge flock of wild turkeys yesterday.

Wonderful fine feathered friends at your neat feeder. Not to many here now, boo hoo!! Thanks for sharing, Francine.

I have a hook out in the other side of the garden that just sits there. I either need to hang a feeder there or move it into the back yard. I bought seed, corn on cob and shelled corn. Squirrels didn't seem to be impressed with loose corn kernels. Maybe they want me to crush it up. Good shot of the Assup leaving the feeder.

It's calming to watch birds come into a feeder. I know the birds appreciate your Winter cafe - open 24/7

How do you know so much about birds and plants...why haven't I learned after gardening all my life and being around birds? I found a book about birds in this area at a garage sale....I'd better go read it. LOL!

Love the new feeder. Where did you find that? My Mom used to call them an assup too. I'm glad you reminded me of that. Put a smile on my face. Enjoy the day.

You and I agree on the too bad so sad attitude toward squirrels. And assup just made me snort laughter. Even at my age, it"s great to know I haven't heard it all. I do like to watch the nuthatches, though.

Great photos, Connie. One day I will hang a feeder; though the birds don't lack for food.
Glad you got to enjoy your new feeder.

We hardly ever see squirrels here around the house, in fact get quite excited when we do! So no worries with them and the bird feeders. The do a good job of stripping the hazelnut tree of nuts in the Fall though:(

What a great shot of the bird taking off! A little serendipity in the timing, eh?

It looks like the birds are really enjoying their new squirrel-free feeder. It's hard to find things that work for long. Those Minnesota squirrels are smart!

Ace Hardware had them:)

Nice bird feeder! We need one of these to keep the squirrels away.

Great photos! I noticed a red breasted nut hatch at our suet feeder this morning. I love those little upsidedown guys. We only have the one feeder any more because of our killer cat.

What lovely shots! At only - 1 C, you're having a heatwave? ;-)

With four cats I have given up feeding the birds. I do enjoy watching them and my father was an avid bird watcher.
