PowWow

Every year a PowWow is held on the nearby reservation. A PowWow is a gathering much like a family reunion.  It is a special time for family to get together and dance and pay homage to their culture.

Photographs are allowed except during the Peace Pipe Ceremony.  When in doubt ...ask.

Every part of the regalia worn has meaning.  Often times special pieces of the regalia are handed down from one generation to the next.  ( Grandma’s Eagle Feather…Grandpas moccasins etc…)

There are many colors…these are Jingle Dancers except for the little girl on the left she is a Fancy Shawl Dancer.

Loon Material

This gal used some Loon fabric on her regalia.

Older women in beadwork

Older women have time for beautiful beadwork.

We visited with friends and had some homemade French fries for lunch.  It clouded up and threatened rain so we headed home.  We eventually got 4/10 of an inch of rain while I was enjoying an late afternoon nap.

Now I would enjoy being at the pow wow! Those outfits are amazing. Logging days looks fun too. When I see all the places you guys go and all that you do, it makes me realize how little Poppy and I get out. Think I will start complaining more!

Thank you for sharing those beautiful photos of the regalia the dancers and people wore. I have been to only one Pow Wow and that was a long time ago. Love watching the dancers.

These costumes are really elaborate and beautiful. Thanks for taking me along to the PowWow. I've never been to one before, except maybe here on your blog. I have a vague recollection of one awhile ago. :-)

Absolutely beautiful. Just a coincidence that I have also posted some Native American Costumes today, so be sure to stop by. I can hear the drums and chanting!

We happened upon a Pow Wow in Arizona on one of our trips. We had a young man sitting by us who explained the costumes and the dances. it was wonderful.

I always look forward to your photos of this event. Such colorful costumes. We had about an inch of rain yesterday. I was deathly sick with a stomach virus and stayed in bed all day.
Thanks for visiting Gosia. I know she appreciates your comment.
Take care.

This would be a grand event to witness.

A museum in the next county had The Sun Dance and The Rain Dance demonstrated along with several elders and experts to answer your questions. It was beautiful and learned a lot about the artifacts we've found.

Such beauty. I think it is a travesty that we don't teach more about the culture in our schools.

What beautiful colors and clothing. I'm so happy to see how proud they are of their heritage as well they should be. They tread lightly on this earth and then we came along and trampled it. Thank you for the beautiful pictures.
