Chasing a Rainbow

Last night we went for a drive to look at the thunderheads and to look at which way the rain might come from.  The rain went around us. Which was okay as we got 1 1/4 inches of rain on Tuesday night. Let some other moisture needy area get some rain.

Chance doesn’t like thunder..he wasn’t real keen on going for a ride..but since we both went he had to put up with the thunder…he hid in the hatchback..I am not sure why that is safer than his usual spot in the back seat..silly dog.

The air was heavy almost oppressive with moisture and heat.  This has been a very warm summer.  We drove around looking at the fields and the sky..finally we found a rainbow.

Rainbow

The small grain fields look ready to harvest soon.  The pot of gold must be in Chilton’s (Donnie’s) lake.. there was a traffic jam on this country road..one other photographer was out taking rainbow photos.

It has been a busy week at the museum..we are trying to get everything done before the “doings” on Sunday.   A few volunteers will be selling Root Beer Floats on Main Street during Crazy Days on Thursday and Friday as a fund raiser..something they try to do every summer.  I made labels for their plastic cups advertising Civil War Sunday and ads for them to put on their table…short of making them wear hats with signs they are armed with advertising for Sunday.  When is enough advertising enough?  I have printed and put up flyers and contacted every newspaper and television and radio station in the area…yet I have this fear that no one will show up.  Cost of “real” advertising is cost prohibitive, so we rely on free ads under Community Events.

I finished transcribing the eight part series of Catherine’s recollections of the Sioux Massacre in the Minnesota River Valley.  Friday that series will be complete. I found it very interesting.  The pioneers lived through some harrowing experiences. This is the 150th anniversary of “The Dakota Conflict.”  Part Six can be found here. :)

Glad you are getting some rain. We have been getting some, too.

I checked to see if I could get to all the blogs about the Dakota uprising. I could. I intend to go back and read the whole thing. Life is easy for us compared to what it was for the early settlers. They were tough people.

Funny how some dogs are petrified of thunder and others don't seem to mind a bit. Maybe Chance knows something you don't about where it's safest to be... Good luck on your museum "doings" on Sunday. You will take pictures, right?

I hope the museum affair goes off without a hitch on Sunday and you have a nice turnout.
No rain here yet, I am hoping for some today.

Chance is so funny! You must have sent to therein our way (S.E. Wisconsin) as we had a bad storm last night that delivered much needed rain for about 45 min. Thanks Connie!

Our cat, Magic, hates thunder. He has one fav place he hides when it is storming. Love the rainbow pic. I hope Sunday is a success for you. Take good care of yourself.

Do you have a sidewalk "sandwich" sign that you can move around town from day to day to advertise the event?

Have someone dress in costume and walk the streets and hand out brochures. It will attract attention and create a photo op, too.

You are being very creative with the advertising, and they should appreciate that. Here's to a great turn out for you guys.

Didn't see you last night - I was a bit north waiting for the sunset - nobody around - just me standing in the middle of the highway armed with my camera and camera stick!

The weekend sounds like it should be a lot of fun. I wish we were closer!
I had to go back and read all 6 of posts regarding the Dakota Conflict. Wow... powerful. I can't imagine being 15 and seeing all of that happen. And folks say our kids 'see' too much!

Just got around to reading this. You have a busy weekend! I like your advertising ideas.
Also - - don't know how I missed the museum blog but have been reading it now. It's very interesting.

You reminded me of another reason I miss the North. I could see the weather coming! Here I can't see anything but straight up...so many trees. I remember once I lived on a hill and could see winter storms coming and go out and have all the wood restocked in the house before it arrived. Here I have to rely on the weather radio even when the sun is shining...very strange and not comforting.
