American Redstarts

Chance and I watched the birds for quite some time yesterday.  We were relaxing..in between baking bread, doing laundry and catching up with housework.

This little American Redstart female put on quite a show.

American Redstart Female

She was bathing!

Water was flying all over.  She was so much fun to watch!

Chance played way too hard on Thursday with Josh, Anna, Megan and Frank.   Border Collies do not have an OFF switch..so by Thursday evening he was limping..but still chasing the ball.  Anyways ..Far Guy worked for me yesterday and Chance slept most of the day.  I think we both needed a relaxing day at home.. and the freshly baked flat bread was a real treat too!:)

Hi Connie, Fresh baked bread sounds good to me! Love these pics and your new header also. Hope you and Chance can get more rest this weekend.

Sounds like the perfect day to me. Nature's beauty front and center.

Your new header is fun, with that picture of the lilac and Chance in the center. It sounds like you are doing much better today, Connie. Poor Chance! Like you said, no "off" switch. :-)

Baron limps too when he chases too much... I have never had a redstart in my yard. Lucky you Connie... :)

I have never seen a redstart before. They are cute little guys, kind of remind me of a wren. Enjoy your weekend.

Mmmmm... I can almost smell that bread baking. That is such a great, homey odor!
I'm so glad you had the opportunity to take it easy and enjoy watching the birds.

Those pics are delightful.

Barney has a bad knee in the back left leg. He can get too excited and jump around on it and he acts like an old guy the next day. I at first thought it was his hip but the vet said it was more in his joint. They just don't quit once they get excited. Rest up Chance for another day.

This is a very first for me to hear about a redstart. I will look it up in my bird book. It looks like a very active bird.

I never heard of a Redstart but then I don't know much about birds either. My Mother was the bird person in the family. I have all her books now so I should look them up. We have some different ones around here for sure.
Nitty does the same thing....mostly she takes off running from a dead start and pulls a muscle or a tendon or twists her paw and then limps around for few days. Glad you're feeling better. I've never tried flat bread before...sounds interesting. enjoy the weekend...I have to go mow now.

Relaxing days off for seniors are allowed! Don't feel guilty about it.

Didn't know about the redstart; don't think they come here (not to our yard, anyway). Glad you got another day off. Fresh-baked bread may be the best smell in all the world!

What better way to relax for you and Chance. Running till you're limping requires much rest afterwards. ;) Having days off is going to mean the world to you this summer. :):)

I love the picture with the real bird captured in the same pose as the statue :-D. Great catch!

The border collies here have an off switch, you just have to remember to flip the switch:)
Hope Chance's day off sorted out the limping.
