The good the bad and the ugly news

Good news I am going to be a Great Auntie again..four times. No not quads, just three nieces and one nephew announced the upcoming births of their children. That means my baby brother will finally get two grandkids and my other baby brother will add two more to his eight grands for a nice round number of ten!

We finally made it to the graveyards yesterday. Our weather is cool and rainy which is normal Memorial Day Weekend weather for us.

I slept most of the day. Far Guy took my place at work for two hours so I could go see the Doctor again last Friday. I have coughed so much that they thought I broke some ribs..luckily the x ray was normal. The explanation is some great big long word…that means ribs so sore it hurts when you breathe or move and the pain is excruciating when you cough. I have good meds that put me to sleep. Chance and Far Guy are taking good care of me…of course someone who sleeps 20 hours a day is pretty easy to care for. What a perfectly good waste of a day off. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

The webworms are about to hatch.   The local newspaper calls them Forest Tent Caterpillars.  They will hatch and devour all the leaves on a tree.  I read that they have covered a wall on the library in town.  I have not seen them on the museum..yet.

Webworms or tent worms

The experts say that our mild winter caused the webs to form.  This bunch is located two miles away from our house.  This shrub also has Black Knot or what I call poop on a stick..that is the black stuff clinging to the twigs:)

Do you have pleurisy? My Dad had that once and he was flat on his back and in much pain when he coughed. I think it's an inflamation of the lining of the lungs but I'm no doctor..I just play one on t.v.! LOL! I remember my Mom who was an RN had an ultraviolet light shining on his chest that was supposed to help...I haven't a clue but I still have the lamp but the special bulb is long gone. My Dad was a carpenter and that's the only time I ever remember him being sick in bed, ever. Back in the day I don't remember people getting sick much at all. If they did it was always something really serious it seemed. I'm sure you're that way too although it might have gone easier on you if you'd rested sooner. Who knows but I sure hope you feel better soon. Unfortunately, the older we get the longer it takes us to heal and get our strength back. I just bumped my hand the other day and now the entire thing is black and blue and sore...broke a blood vessel just by bumping it, I guess. Talk about being "thin-skinned"!
We have those bag worms here and I had them in Iowa too but I've never seen the "poop on a stick" and not sure I want too either.LOL!
This was always the weekend I put the garden in up North....it was 95 here yesterday....whew! Take care and congrats on all the grand nieces and nephews!

Yikes! You are really sick, it seems. Still in bed and coughing so hard you thought you had broken some ribs? There is a whooping cough epidemic in our part of the country, and nobody with even a teeny cough is allowed to visit people in the hospital for fear of spreading it. It was 74 here yesterday, full sun, but today it's cloudy and windy. Hope you are feeling better soon. At least I know since you hardly ever miss a day on your blog! :-)

i remember when the forest tent caterpillars devoured everything green in the whole northern part of the state. it was awful. an ugly summer. they were all over everything--squished on the road, and crawling up the sides of people's houses. people wrapped tinfoil around the trunks of their trees to keep the worms from crawling up to the branches.

i hope you feel better soon.

Congrats about a new grandbaby thats awesome . I had a broncial infection and I coughed my head off for weeks, nothing would help and I did the same to my ribs. I tore muscles and bruised my ribs from coughing it was not pleasent thats for sure I felt as though I was beat up ! I dont like thoses webworms we call them tent caterpillars they destroy the trees at times . We dont get them every year it depends on the weather and if they survive , we ususally take them down and burn them thats the only way to save the trees . Have a good day and hope you feel better soon !

So sorry to hear you are still so sick. Mama often suffered with what you describe. I know how painful it is. Take care.

I had pleurisy once when I was in college. I remember staying in bed and really suffering. I hope that you feel better soon.

Like Laurie, I remember the huge invasions of northern Minnesota years back. We called them Army worms, which apparently was a misnomer. They say we're in for a bit of an increase this year, but not like the old days. Yet. Hope you feel better soon.

Connie, I didn't know you were ill. Shows you how much I get around the blogosphere to read these days. I will keep you in my prayers!

I had a really bad case of something called Costochondritis around 25 years ago...3 out of 4 winters in a row! They told me all the cartilage and my whole ribcage were inflamed. It was horrible! And viral. I just had to wait it out. Hurt to breathe, couldn't lift anything or bend, had to sleep in a lounge chair, and it would take about 4-5 months to go away (only a couple of those months in the middle were bad enough to totally incapacitate me). They told me once I had this I would always be susceptible to it. But--KNOCK ON WOOD--I haven't had it since that last winter...I think it was 1988. Everybody who knew anyone who'd ever had pleurisy told me it was similar. I wouldn't wish either of them on my worst enemy! You poor baby! I hope you are better lickity split!!

Congrats on all the new babies in the family! Goodness!! How exciting!

We called them tent worms or army worms. I remember them being around when I was a kid and the dads just tearing the nests down wherever they could find them. The little buggers eat everything in sight! I hope you don't get any by your place.

Rest, rest, rest! Whatever you have, I pray the meds help and you are feeling back up to snuff in no time. *hugs*

Hope you're feeling better. We had tent caterpillars crawl up a brick wall and cook once.......stunk to high heaven.

Sorry to hear you are feeling nasty...If it's pluresy (pain in the lungs and cough that really hurts), give yourself a mustard plaster...they seem to work really well for that...

Hope you kick this sickness to the curb real soon.
When I was a kid I remember loads of tent caterpillars, but we rarely see them now. We used to cut the whole mass off the tree and burn it.
We had a plum tree with black knot that we finally had to cut down, and we burned that too:)

I hope you get better sooner than later. It's not nice to have sore ribs from coughing.

Hope you get better soon, it's no fun at all when it hurts so much when you cough.
Tent caterpillars are the grossest! We used to have to walk to school under a tree that had them and they'd drop on us, now when I see 'em I burn them!

Hope that rest does you a world of good and that you are feeling much better really soon! And that Far Guy is doing well, too! All these aches and pains are no fun.
