All about Thursday on Friday

Left the Clinic with tears on my face.  Damn mammogram.  I understand that it saves lives, but when it is so painful because they have to squish you flat as a pancake and you turn black and blue and purple perhaps the test is just not worth it anymore.  Many women say  “Oh it doesn’t hurt.”  We good for them..that has never been my case..ever..in three or four weeks the bruising will be gone.

I had to get up extra early to be at the clinic before a busy spring cleaning day at the museum.  Many volunteers showed up..some windows were washed..dusting and vacuuming was done..and the Gift Shop inventoried.  No not everything was accomplished. No one scrubbed the bathroom or kitchen floors. I will get around to it sooner or later.  The local recycling Salvage Depot showed up to take some non artifact things off our hands, an old sofa that was avocado green velvet from the 1970’s, a number of swivel chairs, some old doors and sheetrock left over from a repair.

We had a potluck lunch!  Our new president is a Chef.  He made the best cake. I will share the recipe someday.  You mix it and bake it all in the same pan, and it was warm when he brought it over.  I have asked him for the recipe for the May Newsletter (which I have not begun working on.)

Everyday brings in more items to be **accessioned..I have three piles of “stuff” on my desk that is growing and seems to be taking on a life of it’s own.   Everyone is so excited that the museum is open!!  Have something old..why not take it into the museum and pile it on the directors desk!  **Everything that comes in gets a donation form, a number assigned, a photo, it gets entered into the computer system and put in its permanent spot within the museum and THEN a formal thank you is sent.

Far Guy and I had a date night..it was fun to just do something different.  We went to a local business that was having an open house, they gave tours of their facility and served beer, pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, chips and cake.  We passed on the beer and the cake.

The Flowering Crabs (Crabapples) are blooming in town.  Photographing them was my reward for not passing out during the mammo:)

I feel for you. With all the medical advances, they should be able to find a better way for a mammogram.

Good news on all the helpers. I'm sure you will have the place in ship-shape in no time.

Some women are just more sensative then others . I dont find it hurts , a bit uncomfy and awkward yes but no pain for me . They say that if you are large breasted it doesnt hurt which I am boohoo guess thats why it doesnt hurt me . Either way it aint fun thats for sure . Hope the results are all good. Sounds like you have been busy , thats great that you have the helpers . Have a good day !

I'm feeling your pain. I sadly put off having it done because of the pain. I've heard just the opposite from Country Gal - the bigger you are, the more it hurts. Well, my girls are rather large and the tech tries her darnest to get it all in! I think I'm doing more damage than good...
Hooray for the museum! Sounds like you have your job cut out for you..It sounds like a dumping ground for some.
Your pictures are beautiful. Glad you could get out and enjoy God's beauty.

I'm so sorry it was so uncomfortable for you, Connie, but I'm glad you went. A mammogram saved my sister's life many years ago, so even if it's painful (and yes, I find them that way, too), they are necessary. Hugs. Oh, and you're the best thing that museum ever had, I hope they know that! :-)

It hurts when I have it done. Plus, I have an area that they keep an eye on and it's off toward the side a bit so it's hard to "get it all in". I love it when the machine squishes you have tears, then they hand crank it just. a. little. more. I'm sore for at least a week after, but that area that they watch has scared me enough that I'll endure the pain...
Sounds like you'll have a busy museum season! Hope it all goes well!! Love the photo - beautiful.

So sorry about the painful mammogram.
I do love those flowering crabapple blossoms-so pretty!
Hope you will have a nice weekend.

I hate mammos too but at least I don't bruise like that. Date? I wish!

You poor thing. I sympathize. Doesn't help much, though, does it?!
It sounds like you had a really busy day.
I hope you get to relax this weekend!

Way more women say it hurts that say it doesn't so I think you are in the majority. I really think some MAN developed that test as a form of female torture (but aren't most female medical tests that way?). You are gonna be one busy museum director again and you deserved to photograph those flowers. Don't the flowering trees just make you smile?!

Oh goodness, your mammo sounds awful. I thought it was painful, but not unbearable. Poor you!

Wonderful blossom shots to cheer you up - just what you needed.

I know nothing of mammograms - but - Deanna of My Live and Loves - had one as a routine measure and they found the dreaded "C" stuff... fortunately for her, she put up with the test and the world is so lucky it still has this wonderful woman.

It could be the same for you - do it for us. Please. :)

Yep, I think the gals who says a mammogram doesn't hurt are on morphine!!! I too bruise and hurt forever. Then ask myself if it isn't doin' more harm than good. Maybe I just like to ponder things too much!

So happy your town is enjoyin' the Museum again and hope they know they have the best director!

A date night is always good!!! Sounds fun.

Your pic is sooo beautiful...I can almost smell those blossoms!

God bless ya and enjoy your day! 'Got some ice packs if ya need 'em!

I cancelled/postponed my mammogram in January and haven't rescheduled yet. I hate doing that. They told me the last time I went that the machines don't squeeze so hard anymore but I think they lied to me. Good for you for getting it done. Good that you have some volunteers to help you out. Green velvet sofa...from the 70's...I remember those and they were ugly then too.

Wow, didn't realize so many people had trouble with mammograms. I'd say I'm in the medium size department and of course get a feeling of being squished, but no pain. I'm quite happy to go and have it done. Rather do that ten times over with the female technicians than go for a physical and the dreaded pap smear with my male doctor.
Lovely blossoms on those flowering crabs!

Looks like your flowering crabapples have a little visitor :)

Sorry for your ordeal. Here's hoping your recovery is much shorter than four weeks!

I have had one painless mammogram and it was in McKinney TX. They said it was a new machine (about 5 years ago.) Back to our hometown and the machines here are NOT new. It is painful whether large or small. (They had trouble finding enough of me to put on the dumb plate.)

I keep saying if they squeezed men the way they squeeze women, they'd find a better way to do it right quick!
I despise the annual exam, too.
Thanks for the beautiful flower picture! ♥

Sorry you had to experince such torement. I had one sore for a month and bruised so I don,t go again My thinking is they are causing more injury inturn more chances of a real problem. I hope your season goes well at the musum.gw

Flowering Crab is lovely -Sorry it hurt so bad.

I stopped going because of the pain and the damage. If I get the dreaded C I'll never know until too late, and maybe not then until I'm gone. I hope!

Will we get to see pics of some of the gift shop inventory? Or maybe that isn't allowed. Museum gift shops generally have some unique items.

Connie, at first I thought you meant you were in tears because of a diagnosis. I'm so relieved, even though I feel badly for you. Ugh. It's not fair is it? But I'm still glad it wasn't bad news. I hope you heal up quickly. Flowers and photos of them are always a reward! :)

Did you go to DL? They have a new machine. I know our friend will only go to Fargo were the machine are for people who are larger. I don't get black and blue. Just lucky I guess. Ann

Tattered and Lost said...

YES! It hurts like...and I hate it. The people that say it doesn't hurt are the same ones who say, "I only watch PBS." Yeah, sure. I can say the needle biopsy was actually far worse than the mammogram. And the 6 weeks I had to wait to find out if I had cancer were torturous. Never get lab work when the lab has just been bought by another lab and the people that work there just don't give a....

PR is supposed to have a new machine too..usually I go to Fargo but time got away from me this spring although Fargo was no walk in the park either:(

I too suffer terribly when I get a mammogram. Mine are so painful that I haven't been back in over five years. Until they come up with some other way than squashing the h--ll out of your boob I will just take my chances. My left sid ehas a dense mass so they always gave it an extra good "smash".

Pamela said...

Is it the same tech that gives the mammo? I recognized a difference and the tech that has done mine the past few years is much more gentle and considerate.

Lovely blossoms .... makes you wonder why they call them "crab" apples. And I laughed because they accompanied your mammogram complaint.
