Losing it

My memory is not like it used to be.

Recently I was cleaning out something or straightening something up I have forgotten exactly what I was doing at the time, I have even forgotten what room in the house I was in.  I am quite sure it was not the bathroom. I opened something, not sure what it was and noticed  Far Guy’s Dog Tags inside. I thought..Okay..I guess he knows where they are..no big deal..he will get them when he needs them.

Then he began a project.  It is one of those late in life things..he gathered together all of his Military medals and pins and made a display board for them.  He wanted his Dog Tags..but had no idea where they were.  WELL  I had just seen them a few weeks ago..do you suppose I can remember where?

Jen asked me one day what was new?  I said well your Dad is working on one of the projects for his funeral..she said “WHAT” very loudly.

I have searched almost every nook and cranny in the house.  I am now officially giving up so that some day soon I will remember their hiding place.

Perhaps it will come to me in a dream.

I did find one of his old service photos from 1973:)Eugenes Service Photo 1973

Thank is an excellent idea, to plan ahead. Makes it easier on the family and they don't spend emotionally if the funeral is all planned.

The dog tags will show just when they are needed.

Doesn't that just piss you off when you know you just had seen something, and then can't remember where! That's happened to me so many times! Love Geno's photo.

What an incredibly handsome Far Guy! *skin gets a smitch crawly with the thought of Far Guy's most recent pre-casket project>* Morbid, but never the less handsome. Hope you find the tags in time. (Ew! Tell me I didn't just say that.)

Didn't ya' just love him in that uniform? Join the club on the memory bit. I remember way back but not yesterday.

I do the same thing all the time. Not with dog tags, though, since neither of us has any. I do have my son's dog tags but I don't even look at them since they bring back all sorts of painful memories. But yes, I do that too. I like your downy woodpecker in your new header! :-)

Don't you just hate "getting old"! I get so mad at myself when I forget. Especially since my mother suffered from severe dementia before she died. The amazing thing is that the "lost" items generally do turn up when you least expect them and them you get that "oh yeah" moment. Far Guy is smart to plan ahead and not leave all this to someone else.. He is very handsome in his uniform.

What a looker, that Far Guy was. I must say a million times a day... 'I loose more than I find,' Hope it comes to you soon, so his funeral plans can be completed, but not needed for very many years.

Well, my latest saying is that you will find whatever you are looking for (if you can even remember what you are looking for) in the last place that you look!
This seems to be a universal problem with all of your readers! Me, too! I still have not found Valentine's cards that I bought quite a few years ago. I hid them from the boys... hid them from me, too! Gee, I never thought about it... but I could probably entertain myself for quite a few hours playing hide and seek - wouldn't need another person with me at all!
Great picture of Far Guy - you are married to a handsome hunk!

You sound just like me. One day the tags will show up again! Far guy's photo is wonderful.

What a handsome guy he is!

Don't feel bad...it happens to me every day! The brain cells just aren't "firing" like they used to. My theory is that by our age we have SO MUCH information stored in our brains that it takes longer to search for it...like a computer. It will come to you eventually...it just takes longer to get it because of having to search all those records we've stored in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Another lady here who thinks Far Guy a hunk in that uniform. Thanks Far Guy for serving our country.

Such a good lookin' guy!!!

Hope the dogtags turn up before you go stir-crazy over 'em (and LONG LONG before they are "needed").

Your memory sounds just like mine, Far Side. I know exactly what you are going through when it comes to trying to remember things.

Good luck and have a great day! ♥

I also wonder where I put things that I just saw. I would love to get my things organized. Maybe I could use some help from those who gather things together and put them in one place. I never know how to get the initial steps of organization going.

That is the way it goes some one other then me, myself and I are moving things in the house. Far Guy is very handsome in his uniform.

Oh, I hate that!! I can usually find whatever it is within a day or two, but--like you said--sometimes it has to come to you in a dream or fly sideways into your brain when you aren't focused on it later.

Far Guy looks absolutely dashing in his uniform! ;)

I had to laugh at the "funeral" comment. I wish I had listened to my mother when she wanted to talk about it. I am trying to talk to my kids now and it is pretty hard for them. It is a fact of life.
I love reading your blog. Are you Norwegian perhaps?

When he finishes the project, you and your family can honor him while he's still alive. He'll be glad to know that people are aware of his contributions.

There's just somethin' 'bout a man in uniform!!! What a handsome fella your guy is!

Yeah, give the mind a rest...they'll show up...always the last place you look! Heeheehehe!

God bless ya and have a stupendous day sweetie!!! :o)

I'm going to let somebody else do the planning. I once put away some emergency candles in a safe place where they could easily be found.....that was 20 years ago and I still haven't come across them.

This is practically a daily occurence at the Troutbirder home. Actually an hourly occurence. Yikes....

I know the feeling of forgetting and losing things. I think it comes with our territory in history! People could tell a few stories on me. I liked your story.

Oh my gosh this is my life right now...not the looking for the dog tags, but trying to remember where and when I saw something...

My husband took all the boxes of "stuff that wasn't important" and put them in the basement. All the stuff that he thought wasn't important that is...

So now I search for my favourite pot, my pruning sheers, that embroidered pillow, the vase I love...you get the idea. And as I search, I come across other things I need, but not at that moment. Think I can remember where they were?

I forget stuff all the time.

And DANG. Was Far Guy a movie star back in the day?

I used to have a photographic memory. I remembered every thing I saw and even conversations word for word but it's gone. I'm doing the same kinds of things you describe and it can have happened only 5 minutes ago. Sometimes I'm sure I have Alzheimers but the doctor says not. It can be frustrating and sometimes frustrating.

I too think far guy is most hunky in that picture.

I don't know if your comment about getting ready for his funeral was a joke but I have actually thought about organizing stuff, just in case.... I know it's probably motivated by my health issues this past year but it still feels creepy, but necessary to me. Guess I'm thinking mostly I don't someone else to have to deal with such things.

I hope you find his dog tags before you forget why your looking for them. I know that would be what happened to me. I'd finally come across them and then forget why I even wanted them. Getting old sucks.....
