Comb Case

How many of you have a comb?  I do not own a comb.  I have used a hair brush for years.  Far Guy has no hair but he has a comb, in the spring and summer he carries it in his back pocket so that he can comb through Chances hair and remove ticks before they have a chance to attach themselves to the dog.

Far Guy’s Dad used to have a comb in his pocket.  For the comb over..you know..he was one of those balding guys that tried to hang onto every hair on his head.  So he grew his hair longer on one side and combed it over..he looked funny in the wind.   He usually wore a cap of some kind outdoors.

This is a comb case from the museum. It is the pioneer cabin..it should probably be in the heritage room. It is one item that people comment on.  “ I have not seen one of those before.”  “I didn’t know there was such a thing as a comb case.”

It is made from tin. I think this was painted by someone who might not be an artist.

It may have been in a Barber Shop and it may have held regular combs ..or it may have been in a dressing room of a fancy lady during the late 1800’s or early 1900’s.  It may have held pretty combs..for  holding your long locks in an updo:)

  2. Growing up, all my girlfriends had combs in their purses - not me - my hair was so thick that a comb would not go through it! I've never seen anything like this either. In some historical houses @ here, I've seen something like this for pocket watches.

  3. I have a couple combs but rarely use them. In fact, my hair is so short I rarely even use a hairbrush, but I have one. Sometimes it feels good to brush my hair even when I don't need to. I'll bet that case was indeed in a barber shop.

  5. Its a new one for me too. My Grandmother wore those updo combs and had a special bowl for them as well as this dish with a hole in the lid in which she saved the hair that her brush pulled out......crazy.......what was she going to do with it....make a wig when she went bald?

  6. Didn't know they made these, but it was probably quite spiffy in its day. Such interesting items. :)

  7. I have never heard of a comb case either. My dad carried a comb in his back pocket as well , he had short hair but it was thick and wavy runs in the family as well . Have a wonderful day !

  9. That's certainly unusual. I love your guesses - I have no clue as to it's use.
I once saw a guy with a huge combover who was swimming. He looked so strange having a long lock of hair streaming behind him in the water from one side of his head!

  10. If memory serves me correctly...my dad had made something similar out of wood, that the combs and hairbrushes used to sit in. Now I'm thinking that it was in the 'utility room', and not the bathroom. Maybe so that we could give our hair a last swipe as we headed out of the house?

  11. I have a comb. I mostly use it to get the hair out of my brush after I brush my hair.
Or to work out a tangle.

My hubby uses a comb, too. Quite often, though he is not happy he is balding. (He and his older brother have his dad's hair pattern.)

I store my comb on my brush when I am not using it.
Not seen one before, so thanks for sharing the picture, Far Side. :)

  12. Another thing I've never seen before!

I suspect it belonged to some woman. It's hard for me to imagine some guy on the Frontier having a comb case!

  13. Just stopping by to say hello. Please tell Chance I think of him often. I hope he doesn't smell like a skunk anymore. That happened to me once too. It is not becomming for a Queen to smell so vile.

For the record, I have a brush and a comb and I don't care for either one of them. I much prefer just to have my tummy rubbed!

    Kisses,
    Emma Rose

    PS Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  14. Interesting item. It's good to see things that have survived the years and our penchant for upgrades.

  15. These days I tend to mostly carry a comb - handier. My hair used to be much more tangly when I was a kid but I've got the hang of combing it now :)

  17. That is a terrific vintage item. Never heard of such a thing. But it is functional and attractive. Perfect place to set a comb. I think I need one.

I use only a comb and do not own a brush.

  19. I really don't use a comb...Hubs owns the combs in the house but I'd start just to use that wonderful comb holder. I love it!!!

God bless and enjoy your day sweetie!!! :o)
