“Better lookout Gramma”

That is what Maddie said last weekend.  I was walking along in the water along the shore of Lake Windigo enjoying the sun and taking some photos of some Asters.

Asters at Cass lake

This one I have seen before…some kind of Stiff Aster.

Huge flowered Aster at Cass Lake

This one is very large flowered, I have not seen this Aster before.  Some butterflies and bees were buzzing around.  Jen was off in the kayak.  Chance had a red squirrel chattering at him from high in a tree..I don’t know where Far Guy was…off doing important guy stuff I guess.

Maddie said “Gramma, you better lookout, there are lots of gardener ( garter ..Maddie has always called them gardener ) snakes along the trails.  They won’t hurt you or anything but it feels kinda funny when they run over your feet. See.. there is a little one now..Chance doesn’t like them.”

Ohh Maddie thank youuu for ssssharing.

She said “I figured you would wanna know..since snakes freak you out a little.” ( That would be an understatement..freak me out a lot perhaps..just a little.. not me…it is all or nothing.)

Do not pass go, do not collect your 200 dollars..go back to the safety of the pontoon at the other lake quickly..do not wet your pants either.

From Cass Lake looking at the path that leads to Lake Windigo. I made it safely back to the boat without having anything run over my feet and without screaming or bawling or peeing my pants..I did good:)

That's funny....we called them "gardener" snakes when I was a kid, too.

Your new header made me smile right along with Chance. And gardener snakes are harmless, right? Are THEY safe from you, though? You sure made me laugh with this post today.

LOL, you make me laugh. :-) I always love stopping by here just to see the new header you have put up - they are always so pretty! So nice to hear from you. Now I'm off to check out your Etsy store!!

I so want to say, " I laughed so hard, tears ran down my leg." But I wasn't laughing..

If it was spidies then I would be the one peeing my pants.

Good job! Remember the snakes are as afraid of you as you are of them.

It's something to do with the whole running over my feet kind of thing. I figure it is some basic survival instinct coming in to play that makes me feel so panicked even just thinking about it.
I don't mind snakes, or mice, or whatever, as long as they are at least 5 feet away from my feet:)

It's nice that Maddie was looking out for you.

Beautiful asters and beautiful Maddie. Garter snakes don't bother me, but other ones do. We had so many around when I was a kid and they never hurt you. We could pick them up and everything. But other snakes--give me the willies. I know, makes no logical sense. ;)

Love the new header. I'm really not an "outdoors" person because of the snake and bug and spiders. I don't venture too much into wild growth, but I have been known to pull the car over on the side on the road to dig up some ditch lillies growing wild, out in the country.

I like garter snakes. We have very few here. I see one only every five years or so.

Maddie had your back. Or in your case your feet. Whew. Good thing she didn't have to witness a confrontation between you and a snake.

Yep. I'd say it was a good day.

You already know that you would never survive my yard and gardens. I remember the smaller asters that grow wild down here but I haven't seen the large one either. Our roadsides have looked great this year with all the wild flowers but now they are mowing them to keep the snow from drifting.

I join you in a dislike of snakes - - - and would have been proud to not have wet myself either. Nerves or stress can play havoc with our plumbing. I love what you do with your header. One of these days I may learn that, too.
