Wistful Wednesday : Korea 1951

My Dad was in Korea when I was born.  There are no old photographs of me and my first Christmas in 1951..I was just three months old.

Jake Korea 15 copy However there is a photograph of my Dad.

Jake Korea 14 copy In this photograph you can read the sign it says:

Merry Xmas You Luckey Bastard

So where ever you are this Christmas..remember those brave soldiers in prayer that won’t be able to spend Christmas with their families this year.  I have a special soldier to greet.  “Merry Christmas Ben!”

A sunbeam to warm you,
A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

Bum Thumb Update: It has been a fairly miserable night, the pain seems to be less as time goes on. I guess I will live to see another day:)

I love your Christmas header and remember that doggie ornament from last year, I think. I will remember those soldiers, and so glad to hear the pain is getting less but sorry about the miserable night. Hope it's tip top by Friday!

I had to chuckle at the sign on the tree, although in reality, it isn't funny.
I was putting some Christmas decorations up and heard the news of another Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan, and felt so very sad. When will the madness end?

I hope your thumb heals up quickly, don't want it to hamper your blogging!!

The soldiers from the "forgotten" war must of been a cold, dirty, and weary lot. I'm glad your dad came home. Being overseas and fighting wars that must seem... "somewhat useless" during a holiday time that yearns especially hard for peace must be a hard to handle.

I hope your thumb improves and feels better soonest. Did Far Guy kiss it "all betters" yet?

Sorry about your thumb. Bum time to be injured, but hopefully the pain will go away soon. Peaceful thoughts your way, and Merry Christmas.

As awful as war is now, the conditions are no where near as deplorable as they were during Korea and WWII. Those wars produced some real heroes.

I am glad to hear your surgery is over. Hopefully the pain will be totally gone in the next few days and you will never have to deal with it again. Now take it easy and have a really nice holiday.

And that is the bummer about surgery. They shoot you full of pain killers and Novocaine or something similar so you feel nothing until you get home. We'll keep you in prayer. I pray it heals really well though.
- - - and I was almost a year old that same Christmas.
